Myco vs Manning

Which trailer would you buy and why ?

Comanche3Six 11-18-2003 06:22 PM

Myco....I bought a galvanized steel trailer fom them in 1987 and have not had a single problem.

It tracks nicely behind the tow vechicle. I launch and haul out the Cigarette easily...no centering problems.

It is a custom fit trailer, and Myco does a nice job. If I get a larger boat it will be hauled on a Myco.

Jolley 11-18-2003 06:25 PM

Marc at Manning ('Boatme' on the board) builds a World Class Trailer the Manning. I had a 268'Dancer on a Manning that I towed all over the country !!!!! Very Stout, Very straight on the road. I currently have a Cat that we tow alot and it's on an Eagle, another excellent trailer mfg........................ Check 'em out but I would go with the Manning ( Marc also builds stowage boxes, drive guards as part of the deal ). Good Luck, Bill:cool:

Manning...
I was broad sided this past summer by a drunk girl and the trailer held up GREAT and protected the boat from any harm. The trailer pulls straight and stops well. I am sold on Manning Marine

Bill at Myco is great. My trailer is the best thing I bought for my boat yet. It tows well, lloks good, and seems to be holding up really well to salt water.

I had a Manning from 1997 under a 33ft Donzi. It was a triple axle and was by far the best constructed, towing and appearance trailer in the world. It was built like a tank and supported the boat every few inches, was low and launched perfect...most importantly it loaded with one person, when submerged right the boat just settled on its bunks with no help at all, even in wind and current. It towed like a dream, never ever swayed and with brakes on 2 axles it would stop my truck. No comparison at all, period.

StrikinLightnin 11-18-2003 07:14 PM

When I purchased my 1996 42'Lightning this past summer I had to pull it from Port Huron out to the ChicagoLand area.
I didn't have any experience with Manning Marine until this time.
The trailer went down the road with no effort.
No sweaty palms with white knuckles from
gripping the stearing wheel.
The trailer is super duty and constructed very well.
Loading the boat is very easy once I became accustomed to loading a twin step hull.
The only thing that I've done to the trailer maintenance wise is changed bearings, races, adding synthetic grease
in them for my own peace of mind.

My 13 year old Myco has held up quite well:cool:

Sean 11-18-2003 08:24 PM

My old Myco was built in 87...was dunked for many years, but remains in top notch shape...brakes needed replacement(obviously) and there's some surface rust, but I wouldn't hesitate to run it to Florida tomorrow... :)

My choice...Myco!

MassiveThunder 11-18-2003 08:29 PM

I have owned both.Manning is the only way to go!!!!

Don't get me wrong, Myco builds a beautiful trailer, but so does Manning. The deciding factor for me is that "boatme" is an active member on the forums and I'd like to give him my support.

I agree 100% with Too Old:):)

I had a Myco and you can't wrong with either, but "boatme" is an OSO'er and you gotta support your family:D;)

US1 Fountain 11-18-2003 08:45 PM

WOW, Not the results I was expecting. But I agree with most...... Manning. A buddy has one under his 34' PQ and it is top notch. I was considering a boat that was on a Myco and was not impressed by the trailer at all. What's with leaving the fenders open on the back side?

Love my Myco, it is my second and I have no complaints.

Sounds like Manning is making a good trailer also. Nothing wrong with competition, we all win from that.

Good luck!

Back4More 11-18-2003 09:13 PM

I was looking hard at trailers this past summer for the old 42.
The Myco trailers are nice but its a channel steel construction...the Manning trailers are of box steel construction and more rigid.
Not to mention better value and more of a custom option trailer.
I say Manning might be the best custom trailer available.

skwotastropy81 11-18-2003 09:55 PM

my dad has had two trailer that ive hauled, weve had a eagle for his 320 baja. and a manning for the 420 baja, ive hauled the boat behind both, we had the manning built new, its a awesome trailer looks and performs well, our boat is always on the trailer, the only toss up in my mind between myco and manning, is that myco seems to be alittle better for every weekend salt water use, however up here in the freshwater i would never go with nothing less then the manning, when i get my boat within a year or two if it doesnt have a trailer i will defintley go with manning.

WickedWon 11-19-2003 06:08 AM

You Can't Go Wrong With Either

Manning for steel, Myco for aluminum ( cause Manning doesn't build aluminium DAMN IT ) Marc are ya listening ?
I just bought another aluminium MYCO from Bill, great people BUT, no fender backs at these prices  Bill are you listening ?

I had an Eagle trailer under my Formula and presently have a Manning Trailer under the Cig.. Both have been GREAT!!! I don't know about Myco...although I have never heard a negative thing about them (except for price!).

I towed the Cig. Bullet home to Virginia from Oklahoma when I bought it and it was awesome (after the first 1/2 hour when I was nervous about towing the boat for the first time).:D :D It towed effortlessly and was a stress-free trip. I really like the electric brakes better than the surge brakes. That "clunk" when you take off from a stop used to get on my nerves.

Myco builds aluminum, box and channel steel trailers.

mine happens to be channel...

my opinion of box steel trailers is that there is the potential of rusting from the inside out and you won't know until it's too late :( I've also heard that the box steel can be preasurized to prevent this...

anyone else heard about this?

here's my ole girl :)

Indy 11-19-2003 07:59 AM

Salt water vs. fresh water > design & materials are going to come in play here. I tend to agree with Sean's box vs. channel point. I had a trailer rust out from the inside on me. How about galvanized, or galvanized painted, does either manufacturer offer either? For my needs which is salt water, I'd have to give the Myco channel aluminum the nod unless Manning makes something competitive.

Miller 11-19-2003 09:33 AM

I have not owned either of them. But, I have been in cars towing with them and have seen both up close, in addition to some Extreme trailers (made out West). All three seemed to be equally well made and have some nice features. I don't think you could go wrong with them. I'd probably try to support Manning since he visits the site. Though, everyone who has dealt with Myco has said that its customer service is second to none.

My Mannings have been great. Here is my gooseneck for the 47 Fountain

ChrisK 11-19-2003 10:17 AM

MYCO does build a pressurised box trailer. I saw one there once going to baharain(sp?) It was a gooseneck trailer that something BIG was going on(think he said it was a OL)...

animalhouse 11-19-2003 10:17 AM

Our Myco gets our 18,000 pound 51 Outerlimits where ever I need to go at 100+ mph. Track straight and rides smooth.

We went with the tanem dual wheel set up and it is the only way to go.

Pressurized box steel construction helps prevent rust.

animalhouse 11-19-2003 10:19 AM

chrisk,

51 OL w/ Tripp Sterling 1200's (130 mph) Being towed on Myco, you could go that fast on land or sea

Good to hear you are being so safe on the roadways while towing ......... Hopefully someone will get you slowed down a little before you take some innocent folks with you for a dirt nap.:(

That's the type of attitude that gives offshore powerboating a lasting good reputation in the eyes of the public and more recently, the insurance companies........
Welcome to the board; your contribution so far has been interesting to say the least....

guys,

let's not pile on anmial house...i seriously doubt he's towing his 51' million dollar Outerlimits at 100mph geeez....

ChrisK 11-20-2003 09:13 AM

you never know...

animalhouse 11-20-2003 10:30 AM

Seriously,

I tow at 70-75. However, I have been known to stretch my legs for a mile or so every once and a while.

The point is, my Myco can't tell the difference between 55 & 100.

Wouldn't buy anything other than a Myco.

I Backed the trailer off of the Ramp at 14th st. in Pompano Beach. (Too Long) and the only damage sustained was a missing light and a scatrch on the bottom of the fender. This thing is built like a brick SH@! House.

Manning's got my vote! Myco has been around for years and I'm sure they are top quality and I doubt you'd go wrong with their product, but when I priced mine about 7 years ago, they where almost double the price of the Manning. My decision was easy and here's a picture of it 7 years later still working great. And boats don't get much harder on a trailer than a 50 Meteor.

I have friends pulling 40 Hustlers and a 45 Sonic on Mannings and I'm sure they would say the same.

P.S. - Animalhouse, you should feel ashamed of yourself for pulling your boat that fast for no reason at all. Now me on the other hand, I have to sneak it up to 85 every now and then just so I can tell people the boat goes that fast.:D

AugiePensa 11-28-2003 07:55 AM

Myco, best of everything! Any problems just a phone call to Bill and it's taken care of.
