Maybe the turbo is going on something. I tow with overdrive off (Ive heard some people tow with it on:confused: ) and even if I drive around empty with the overdrive off, I only get 10 or so. It doesnt make sense to me. If I didnt have the 35's on it, I would take it into the shop to see if something was wrong with it. Even with them I still wonder. As far as pulling and running, it seems perfect. |

how fast did you drive pulling the 12k? I can get mine down in the high 7's driving 70. |
This is something for you guys to reference against the 6.0 Powerstroke.
Going to the Shootout this year pulling my 26' Scarab. Truck had about 1,200 miles on it when I left. Ran between 80-85 all the way. Boat and trailer full of gas weigh 6,820lbs. I averaged just over 11mpg for the trip. I'm sure that number will increase easily after this engine gets broke in. But I don't expect to see anything better than 14-15mpg under those conditions. I'm sure that's stretching it too. Maintaining speeds up hill is a lot easier with this engine. Overall some good points made in this thread. Buck |
A real work horse motor.
We love the one in our 2001 Excursion. Two years old and NOT ONE SINGLE PROBLEM OF ANY KIND. Been used in RV's for years. It will haul the mail! With have the 3.73 rear end and the best fuel mileage we have seen has been around 15.8 MPG. I would not hesitate to buy another. I also have a 7.3 Power Stroke in a 2002 F-350 and there is not a lot of difference in power in my opinion. The sound of the V-10 is nice also. |
I have owned 2000 7.3 PSD and I now own 6.8 V10 Excursion. I never got more than 15-16mph with the PSD non-towing and towing was about 12. The V10 is hard on gas 12-14 non-towing and 6-8 towing my 35' Boat. The PSD has more grunt towing, the V10 is a dream to drive as it is quiet, no smell, and gas it up anywhere. The v10 has a lot of torque and really rips at stoplights. The new quieter 6.0 diesel has me thinking again to go back. I drove one around town and it felt like a dog untill the turbo kicked in. Tough call if money is no object. But, $5,000 will buy one hell of lot of gas.
