handgun advice
looking for some advice on the best handguns
i am looking to buy 3 a .50 desert eagle a 9mm,.40. or .45 )cant decide a smaller (.380) concealbe type any reccomendations i like sig,beretta and hK |
Mike
You can't go wrong with the Beretta 92 9mm. Get it in stainless so salt water doesn't bother it. Ed |
a 9mm you usually have more shots. a .45 hits harder. I personaly would take the .45. There is a better chance of a one shot stop. Of course, if you are not to sure your going to hit it in one shot, with the 9mm you've got a dozen more shots to try.
|
A Eagle is a waste of time, as is any handgun you cant use. A good all around social gun is a 1911 45, either Govt model or commander. If you need more then 8 rds to end a situation you shouldnt be carrying.
just my .02 |
Mike
Your boat has three #6 speedmasters and three 1200 horsepower engines. You don't strike me as a economy minded individual. Get the stainless Beretta 92, have three 15 round mags ready to go. Ed |
there was a reccent thread on this.
I just bought a Glock 23 a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it! it is very small and concealable 10shots .40 cal and the recoil isnt bad at all and it is extremely acurrate and consistent. It makes a great conceal/carry gun with plenty of knockdown power:cool: If you are familiar at all with Glock you know that they make 3 basic frame sizes Large, small, and, tiny. the 23 is small. what I really like about it are the sights, extremely quick and easy to aquire your target. From what I have heard DE is more of an overpriced conversation piece. I still want one:D for more info on Glock check out www.glocktalk.com its like OSO for Glock afficianados. |
I have a Sig Sauer 239 in 9mm. Nice gun. I sleep well at night, knowing that it's "handy".
Mike |
I have an AMT .45 Backup for my concealable weapon. It is very small and automatic. I like it but it is only good for shooting someone :D
|
Depends on a few things:
1. Who are you looking to shoot? 2. From how far away? 3. How many times would you like to shoot them? 4. Would you like to shoot there friends? 5. Will they be dressing for the occasion to be shot at? 6. Are you worried about getting caught? Most of the guns you listed will meet criteria to most answers to the above questions. If the answer to question one is Me, Please look into spitwads or stapleguns! |
Kimber 45acp.
|
You can't buy any new guns with more than a 12 round clip now. I don't know what year that law came out. I have about ten hand guns from 22-45 cal. Colt, Ruger, Taurus, Wilson. The Wilson KZ 45 Compact is by far the best carry gun I have. I also have a $3500 Colt 45 that I love but it's a bit big to carry all the time. The Desert Eagle is junk, but if you run out of ammo you can always beat them to death with that big heavy pig. You wont need a holster for it you need a wheel barrow.
|
I love my .40 caliber Beretta, extremely accurate, great knockdown power, very well balanced. Have owned it for ten years or so, shot at least two thousand rounds through it and have never had a single problem. Extremely easy breakdown to clean. Keep it loaded and with 2 spare clips of "Black Talons". (minature chainsaws)
|
smith & wesson .40 as the daily driver , kel-tec 32 7 shot for the suits. fits in the palm of your hand , lightweight and will hit what you want to hit;)
|
Beretta or Glock.
Buck |
I would suggest going to a range that rents them and try out a bunch. thats what I did, ended up with a .45 Glock and went back a few years later and got a 9mm Beretta. My Glock holds 15 rounds, I'm not positive but I think you can purchase the old higher capacity clips at gun shows. As far as needing the extra rounds, I sure do, as I don't see real well at night, esp without my glasses.:D

Find one that fits your hand well and learn how to hit what you aim at. In my opinion the best guns are (and I'm not alone in this view):
1. Sig Sauer (tie) 1. Hechler Koch (tie) 3. Walther (tie) 3. Glock (tie) 5. Kimber 6. Colt (1911) 7. Browning (Hi Power) 8. Beretta 9. Smith and Wesson Try a few. The 1911 model is considered a fairly easy design for many people to shoot well. However, the recoil is more than some can handle and the grip is somewhat narrow and is a bit tiring for some people with big hands to hold for long. If it was me, I'd look seriously at the HK (USP or P7), the Sig (particularly new SigPro or new Sig 1911) and the any of the Glocks or Walthers. But, whatever you do, learn to hit what you aim at with the gun you buy as they will all take some getting used to. |
It scares the **** out of me knowing all you thugs are packin' heat!:p
I have a S&W 9. It's too small for my hand and I need all 15 rounds to hit anything! Use a .12 gauge and saw off the barrel! :p |
My money would be with a Hechler Koch or Sig if you want reliable. I would NEVER use a Glock as a carry gun as I have seen more of them jam in shooting competition then I care to see and that makes me wonder why any one would want them. Most people are shifting to the 40mm's for carry and that is the hot ticket now. My carry gun is very small S&W 5 shot. It is what I call a gut gun. You can not hit anything more then a couple feet away but you can shoot it from your pocket. There is no hammer on the gun so if you have to pull it out of your pocket you will not get it caught on your pants. Remember what ever you get practice practice practice.

For a .380 - Walther PPK, I have one in stainless - 10+1 semi-auto, thin, accurate and reliable. Also have a .380 Solothurn, 10+1 semi-auto, nice piece! Glock model 17, pre-ban, (2) 17 round and (1) 15 round clip to go with it, great collectors item (was former Boston PD issue, recon'd by Glock before I bought it, has "Boston PD" on the slide - my fav.!) Easiest / fav. to carry, .25 cal. Baretta, 8+1, very small but packs a decent punch for a little guy, or so the watermelon showed me:D
H&K's are awesome, as are Sig's, can't go wrong with either. Desert Eagle, save your money... And be sure that you know how they work, how they shoot and never pull it out unless you are putting it away for the night or are prepared to use it, mentally and physically... It ain't the movies, "freeze" doesn't cut it out there. |
Colt Mustang .380

thanks guys..the desert eagle was strickly for nove;ty

I disaggree with many on the Desert Eagle. It is just not for someone with small hands. I put quite a few rounds through a .44 DE that I bought back when they first came out. I never had a problem with the gun, even with hollow points. The recoil springs mean business, and will definitely chamber a round.
I successfully deterred a crime with one, and no one can dispute the OH**** factor of the muzzle. I don't think it is the best carry gun, but it appears that he has 3 guns in mind for various purposes. For carrying I also would not recommend a .454 Casull premiere grade, or a MAC-10 .45 with 40 round clips, or a U.S. Army issue XM-21 sniper rifle with a 3X9 AR-TEL scope, or a Soviet Dragunov, but they are all fun to shoot. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The good old model 1911 works, as do the Berettas, Sigs, HK's, etc. For a carry gun the more important issue is training. Double tapping helps your odds, too! You have to be REAL carefull with a PPK as they are so small that when you grab them in a hurry you can grab them to high and the slide can RR track your hand. I have seen it happen and it does NOT look fun.

www.sigforum.com
www.rugerforum.com i have a sig 229 in 40 S&W... as well as a fitted drop in 357 sig barrel for it (factory sig, not a barsto)... i really like this gun. i have small hands, it fits me well and is a pleasure to shoot. As well as versitile being 2 guns in one... takes literally 1 minute or less to swap barrels... if i really want she is concealable enough but maybe not quite comfortable... I also handload all of my own ammunition and she'll eat anything i toss at her... light to heavy... and i have NEVER had a misfeed or failure to extract in the 3000 or so rounds i've put through her. i have some impressive stuff coming out of the end and through the chrono for hunting loads if i so chose to use it... 135 gr nosler jacketed HP at 1580 average fps (10 shot average). the 150 noslers / 155 gold dots are flying right at 1400 fps... gotta love hodgdon longshot... recoil is about the same as 8 gr of winchester wst behind a 155 speer gold dot and does not rack the slide hard... wst is the way to go for almost zero muzzle flash... NO signs of high pressure with these loads and safe in the sig due to a fully supported chamber. this is one downfall of the Glock... unsupported chambers which can lead to case bulging and splitting if +p type loads are cycled. the 357 sig is a barn burner... extremely accurate due to the bottle neck design which head spaces it off of the shoulder instead of off of the case lip like straight walled cartridges... my SERIOUS gun is the ruger blackhawk chambered for 45 Long Colt... the rugers have strong frames so you can use +p type loads.. and some folks go waaaay beyond that... (linbaugh as an example)... she has a few deer to her name... none have ever lived to tell the tale if i have drawn a beed... 50 yds and that's all she wrote... and a blast to shoot... but it is a single action wheel gun... |
Right On Jaroot
Sig all the way. I've shot Glock, H & K, etc. etc. (all nice) but my P229 is reliable, 2 guns in one, fairly compact, and the .357 or .40 have some real stopping power if you need it. Tritium night sights and a laser....what else would you need?
Well, actually if you have money to blow and want competition accuracy, my Les Baer .45 would be recommended. Guaranteed to shoot a TIGHT pattern. |
if you're lookign for novelty look at a Taurus Raging Bull. Biggets handgun made.
I was shoting wiath guy who had one. It was louder than the 12 guage i was shooting and i was firing slugs. And th eguy must have been 300lb an he could barely hang onto the damn thing. Kept hitting the dirt abtou 15 yards out. But if you want a ridiculous over the top hand canon, you can;t beat it. |
Audio makes a good point, I have cut may hand with the PPK and the .25 Baretta, it stings a bit. But then again if it's a life & death situation, I'll take the cut and the pain over a hole in the ground...
|
Desert Eagle....well they are pretty cool, and are more controlable than you would think, but pretty useless other wise. But if you got the bucks.
- .45 Sig-Sauer. Own'em, compete with'em, one of the few guns I would trust my life with. - .380 (or .32) if you can find one....Seecamp. Hand crafted, stainless, no biger than a wallet and another gun you can count on every time. |
DoTheMath.
Yeah, those PPK's bite me right at the top of my hands web. Sucks, because I like the guns, just can't shoot'em with out sheding blood. |
Mag. capacity is limited to 10 rds. + 1. on all guns, except L.E. models.
50. D.E. IMO, I agree, a waste, plus it's a 1.00 per round to shoot. as a novelty, yes its awesome. IMO don't bother w/ a 9mm unless you want to target shoot cheaply. ammo runs 7-8 for 9mm 8-9 for 40. and 10-11 per box for 45. that being said I have two 40.'s and love them both. great velocity and very good stopping power. don't waste your time w/ a wimpy 38. there are a lot of very concealable guns on the market in 40. cal. Glock 27 is example. God forbit you ever need to use it, but if you do, you want stopping and knock down power. Manufacturers I like in no particular order: Beretta 96. compact 40. inox finish is beautiful. Glock 27 40. H&K usp sig kimber Springfield Also what is very important is for you to go and see what fits your hand and what is comfortable. depending on the size of your hand, it makes a difference, it should feel natural, no stretching to reach ANYTHING, trigger, safety, de-cocker, mag. release. |
Good point - hold each to see which feels the most comfortable. The Sig or a Ruger fit my hand great. My friend's 10mm Glock is uncomfortable to me.
|
If you have large hands the Sig with the Packmier (sp) grips is one hell of a good feeling gun :D:D
|
kimber 45 ultracarry. top notch gun comes with grade match barrel small size very comfortable grip. 1911 reliability.
If you just want a defense weapon taurus millennium 45 is nice cause its an ultracarry so very concealable with a 3" barrel and holds 11 with double stack magazine.only downfall is less versatility being dual action only. Btw: stay away from 9mm unless you want to unload a while clip into someone and through the wall into your neighbor too.9mm high penetration low energy. 45 high energy low peneration(much safer for home security) I read somewhere that no one has ever survived a chest shot from a 45acp, true or not I wouldn't want to find out.my 02 |
