New NASCAR Track in Mid MI.

There are talks of a new track near Gun Lake (Kalamazoo area). This would be awsome. I hope it is a super speedway, no short track crap. Lets all cheer for a mid MI NASCAR track.:D

I think that we may be getting one too near Houston

Well just look at how many races are at the same track. You have 2 at Bristol, 2 at Daytona, 2 at Talladega, 2 at Lowes and I could go on. It seems to me that finding a race date is easy but finding good tracks are hard.

Yeah, Bristol of the North!! Build it tight, high banked, and fully enclosed by stands!!!

If you build it, they will come!!!

I have not heard anything about a track down there. Are you sure it is Gun Lake and not Martin? The new dragstrip there is pretty cool. I heard that the guy was thinking of building another circle track there again.???

Bad news...they probably would not get a Cup date, becuase the region is already covered by MIS and to place a race only 2 hours from MIS and only about 3 from Indy adn even less from Chicago, when Kentucky will likely get one soon, probably won't happen.

I would say New York is a prime target, and maybe another West Coast date.

As much as I hate to say it, I bet MIS will lose a date. I have seen probably 30 races at that track and hope they do not lose a date, but I bet they will. The new track may get some smaller series, which is still great and awesome racing, but it would be hard to justify another Michigan Cup date....and I would love to see it happen, don't ge me wrong.

I agree, build a high banked 1/2 mile DRIVERS track...no more cookie cutter, flat 1 1/2 mile tracks needed, we already over loaded with them.

:)

They will just take it away from the people who made them what they are and run to some bandwagon fans who are interested in them for now. This is the very reason for all purposes I am DONE with NASCAR. I grew up a huge fan and have been around many drivers and races for a long time but it has changed too much for me. I know people who have raced and people who work for NASCAR and it just isn't the same as it was in the "good ole' days".

I am just getting more and more interested in boat racing now. At least people can't throw up a new ocean to race in :D .

That's exactly what I was told by a friend who works for FORD These old tracks are getting pissed because they are going to pull a race event from them to head to a new track. Nascar says they need to expand and grow into more areas of the country. I read there are some very Drastic changes in the Future of Nascar. going to be very interesting to see what comes of it.

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the new NEXTEL Cup! :hothead:

Glad I still have all my Camel and Winston stuff! :D

Like it or hate it, it is progress. I can't say I disagree with you guys, and I feel your frustration. Tricky to make the right calls....don't offend the foundation while growing in new markets. What to do?

I REALLY hated to see the LAbor Day race moved, but I understand other things like Rock losing a date due to only haveing 60 or 70k in the stands. Heck, a Busch race at KY pulls about 75K fans.

Hard decisions, but great times. I jsut hope they don't alienate the hard core long time fans in favor of gaining new not so dedicated fans(not all of them ofcourse). All in all, the on the track stuff needs to remian high quality, that will help ease alot of concern.

They need to get back to going to race TRACKS, not race VENUES.

Hopefully it should be cool enough up there so this guy will keep his shirt on. :D

You hit the nail on the head. I understand that things must progress and there were things they did I didn't agree with...Like cancelling races at North Wilkesboro and the race at Rockingham...but moving the labor day race was the straw that broke the Camel's back for me. I have been to a lot of tracks but after that move I vowed that I will NEVER attend another race at any track but Darlington again...maybe Rockingham but that would be it for me.

I wish them the best in their future ventures...but myself and many others are as good as done with them. Once Dale Sr. got killed I lost a little bit of enthusiasm...now I have basically lost the rest of it.

Clearcut,

Yeah, I think you are plenty justified in your stance. I am not at that point, or even close, but I appreciate you concern. I hope you can find a love for the sport again. If you really like racing and want to continue to see live races, go to a local dirt track on Sat night and check out a good late model show...it will remind you of why you liked NASCAR in the first place.

Unfortunately I think there are alot of people in your shoes who have lost thier allegance to the sport they loved so well. That really sucks, sorry to hear it man.

I still love it, but having been a fan and closely involved in Cup racing for 15 or so years, I feel a bit of a loss with some of the advancements as well. The bigger you get, the large the target on your back becomes...an unfortunate truth.

Later

A4 :)

I still like to go to some of the tracks around here that are still like the old days. Myrtle Beach Speedway and Greenville-Pickens speedway are two great ones in SC. I used to love to see Dale Jr. run at Myrtle Beach, he was the man on that track!!
