Not that I am any fan of Detroit but if you read the safest 25 cities Detroit has four of them in the top 16 within a short drive of downtown. Hmmmmmmmm. Maybe it's a small area of Detroit that's less than freindly? NK

Tampa, Fl. at number 9???

That's a shocker for me, I always though Tampa was a nice town.
Of course, I was mostly visiting suburbs.

And to be ahead of Miami has to raise a few eyebrows!

on a more serious note, i will vote for san antonio texas, that place is bad news. I got mugged there and ended up getting in a little trouble my self cuz I shot all but one of my attackers with there own gun but after the police found out what happened they quickly released me.

That is the problem, most people visit the suburbs, Go downtown some night!!!! Miami gets a bad rap, but its not that bad, Miami has a lot of poor areas, and a lot of rich areas, not much in between, us middle class mostly live in Broward, and Palm Beach County. Most of the crime in Miami involves stupid crap, drugs, rape, and robberies, watsch your A$$, and your fine. I watch the news every night, and there is just as much if not more Murder going on elsewhere in the country.

Great! Reading's 25th... That's why I live well out of town.

(It's a popular place to arrange "management meetings" and currency/goods transfers for those that are involved in the amateur importing/distribution of recreational pharmaceuticals. Negotiations in these transactions do not always end amicably.)

Most of Detroit's problems are within the city limits which is why the suburbs around the city have grown exponentially. People are moving out as fast as they can, according to the 2000 census the metro area population of Detroit is 5.4 million the population within the city is 951,270. That's pretty sad when you consider in 1950 the city's population was around 1.8 million.
