Hypothetical boat buying question....
Suppose you had, oh, mid-20K to spend on a boat. Had to be reliable, well-built, and run at least 60 mph (or close enough for government work). Portapottie a definite bonus. Big enough for medium sized lake. Good ride - no flat bottomed boats need apply. Decent freeboard a bonus as well, as a 2 year old will be regular passenger.
Any suggestions? |

Doc, what size you lookin for ?? you could pick up a nice Baja 232, like very late 90's, maybe even a 99 for that. I think for their size they handle rough water great. mine does 59-60 w/ 300 hp carbed 454, has GREAT cockpit room, and would be faster w/ 454 mag.
or if looking for bigger than 23 the 272 like clay suggested. IMO w/ baja you get a lot of boat for the money. |
Check out Just Once's Excal. Im sure for 20k he will sell it ;)

i got exactly what your lookign for.
1987 scarab that i totally rerigged. I'm having teh upholstery finished this winter and putting ane a bolster sylte rear bench. SHe almost done. I've run her for acoule hours so far and seen low 60s. But i'm runngin WAY too much prop. SHe's goiing on the block in spring. I need her sold come spring. I bought a race car (open wheel formula) and am planningon going boatless next season. brand new 550hp 454 qith 11 hours on it and fresh bravo. (I convereted from an alpha) :D |
oh its a 26excel model. But the cockpit it totally custom and i actually measured it and its 27' :D

253 Checkmate Convincer.....single big block mid 60's great ride lots of room !!!
|
Buy a lot-o-beer and a little gas and go cruising with some fellow boaters. Once you know you want to buy, then you have to know what you want, even if it's a little more than what you initially planned on spending. The right one is waiting out there for you.

90ish 272 formula. That was my second boat and i loved it. plenty of room and a great ride for the size.

seans old cig 28ss for 30k... nautti kitty has it now

You just described the scenario for my next boat. The answer is easy 24 Pantera.
As tough as they come, great in the rough but still fun on a lake. I'd want an SE model with the big cuddy, I'm sure there is room for a porta potty. They are pretty easy to get into the 60's even with mild power. Seriously what more do you want? |
my boat doesn't seem like what your looking for I think you want more room than a 2 seater and deffinetly no potty. However It'll handle any water a inland lake will throw at you, do 60 no prob. and is a Vee front to back.:D

There is a 26' Sutphen for sale on ebay that is/was owned by a member of OSO I think. Another member had his for sale also. Both look like nice boats.
|
puder, we might have to talk come spring - and I know that motor is going to run after all the grief you went through to get it!
Of course, be advised that I'm planning to hire Too Old as my boat inspector, so you guys better play it straight! ;) :D |
got any pics?
|
My first offshore boat was a 30 ft Scarab. Good riding boat, twin engines, lot of 'em around. You might find a decent one in the 20s.
|
A 242, 272 or maybe even a 292 older Formula. Get one with twins.
