This is honestly what makes commitment to a new truck difficult.
I'll miss the power, but the thing sucks fuel like a top fuel dragster...

Steve,
I can't speak for the DMAX I've got a Cummins but last year when I was up snowmobiling I forgot my extention cord and the truck sat for 4 days at below 0 to 15 degree temps. When I started it,it did smoke and chug for a little bit.
Normally when it's in the twenties it will smoke a little when I first start it. I will fire it and let it idle for a minute then I go.
Gordo,
I guess seeing all those 6.5's and 6.2's left you shell shocked!
I drive one everyday and don't see any negatives about it. To each thier own though.
The one question I have is why is the price of diesel the same or more than gas? Two years ago it was always cheaper.

ALL 2500 Avalanches have the 8.1L.
The Allison is too big to fit between the frame rails of the common chassis in these trucks. Therefore, they mate it with the M32 Tranny, aka, the 4L85 or something like that. Its a 4 spd auto, and due to the MASSIVE torque of the 8.1L, the engine is electronically torque limited in the first half of first gear, to keep you from ripping the transmission out, and everything inside the differential.
I guess it is smart, but I wish I could have the tq. back; like with a switch or something. Its already hard enough to get it rolling without spinning the tires. The second gear tq. from a dead stop is actually more than the first gear.

Brian,
I thought about that option... But I just can't bring myself to it...
See that ranger in the pic, sitting next to my truck??? That belongs to a guy that works for me.... You'd have to hit me over the head with a lead pipe to get me into that thing...
I might just as well buy a motor scooter if...... naw, can't do it.

OK, cheap, beat up K1500 work truck, with a 4.3 V6, or a 4.8 V8. Longbed, no frills, automatic, and beat the piss out of it. Seriously, you have a great truck, you trust, and in great shape you have painstakenly kept that way.
Yeah, newness is all cool and stuff. Hell, get you some new wheels, and a new stereo, and be happy for another two years.

Tim,
I hate to break it to you, but big trucks are not fuel efficient. It doesn't matter what engine is in it. But fuel is usually cheaper than a new truck in the long run.
If you want the new truck - great. But don't sell yourself on it thinking how much gas you will save.

My Dually may be for sale soon too. The lease on my Expedition will be up in Feb so I may be looking for a new P/U.
