why cant I use gear drives on marine engine?

Comp true roller timing set with Torrington thrust bearing. About $80.

Jesel Belt setup. About $850.

Either choice is better than your gears.
What will break if you run the gears? You'll break the cam, if it's cast. If you have a billet cam, you most likely will NOT break it.

Your choice.

I have two brand new Crane BB noisey gear drives for sale.Brand new in the boxes.Dean Nickerson's dyno talked me out of them

Merc used a two-gear setup in their low-horse counter-rotating inboard gas engines until 1989 when all inboards went to standard-rotation, but these were a matter of necessity to retain a stock-rotation distributor and oil pump.

I run a comp cams lt drive on the Camaro. Its cheaper. I dont know the diff between it and the Jesel.ere is the link on the belt drive

I have used the Pete Jackson Gear Drive and like cigarettefirefox haven't had any problems but the best I have used so far is the Jesel belt drive by far the best I have tried. Someone mentioned earlier that if you use the gear drive from Pete jackson use the reinforced timing cover ABSOULUTELY A MUST, I think they even offer one also. Anyway if anyone has any questions PM to discuss.
