It couldn't be a bad deal. congrats!!!!

Downtown42 12-09-2003 02:51 PM

My friends sister lives there and he says its great. Can I ask what 250k buys on a canal? I am thinking of LOTO but moving back to Fla is an option. Dave

otis311 12-09-2003 05:23 PM

Jason, Does the Canal have a straight shot to the ICW and Gulf or does the boat have to be lifted up and over ??

Ive seen both in that area

Sound great, when is the potential move ??

Watch out Florida!

DanB 12-09-2003 05:28 PM

Hope you have a dock already built!!!!!
There saying a 2 year wait for permits. I had to "re-build" mine, but they wouldnt let me put in a sea wall.
Glad to have ya..look me up when you get here. And leave all your bad habits up north :)

I'm just up the road in Nokomis, (just past Venice, south of Sarasota). Welcome. You will LOVE the boating here. When you get down here get hold of me. Outlaw

otis311 12-09-2003 05:51 PM

Formula, Nice area, I took a cruise down from St Petes for a beer and burger in some little Tiki bar in Venice last year. I went in the inlet and headed north for a 1/2 mile or so. The place was on the right just before a bridge if I recall. Lets meet up over the winter when I get back down there.

Bob, Yeah, it's the old Salty Dog, now the Casey Key Fish House. Great place, it's on the left though just before the bridge (our old Blackburn Point "swing" bridge. My Aunt/Uncle and three cousins live just outside Albany. Small world. When you coming down this way. We will definitely hook up. First beer's on me. Russ

Cape Coral is nice. It'll be great to have another powerboat here...
OPBA is the local club. The poker runs are great.
Right o about the permits.. I hope you already have a dock. Let me know if you don't... I have a dealer for our lifts that does dockas and walls as well.

Those of us that are into boats are never sorry we moved here.
We put 85 hours on the boat since last Jan...

DanB 12-10-2003 04:58 PM

No prob with lifts...they havent gone that far yet, but I wouldnt wait too long to find out. If Tim G cant help ya out with the lift let me know and I'll hook ya up with a local guy. What size do you need? I may be upgrading mine to 10K#'s I have a 7K now.

Congrats on your purchase. Instead of renting the other side out why not make it the official OSO party house for out of towners? :D

ST31 12-10-2003 05:43 PM

I second that idea. :) :) :)

Would love to party this weekend, but we're in Lauderdale for the Boat Parade and another party... Come on over if you like...

I'd rent it, but that commute across alligator alley would lill me...
It looks like a good investment... Boating here can't be beat.

We can get you a nice floating lift and just tie it to your dock...

Jason,
We've been trying to keep this place a secret but I guess the word got out.
Great to have you and look forward to meeting you.

I'm just curious - does water levels vary too much in these canels and does FIMA nail you with flood insurance?

CigDaze 12-11-2003 12:51 PM

Tides on the Gulf side swing about 2.5 feet from High mean high to low mean low tide. Flooding usually isn't a problem either(typically) due to good drainage.

However, it's the storm surges you have to worry about. Severe low pressure systems or high onshore winds can raise the water levels many feet. Seek high ground when hurricanes approach.
