What is, when is it, where is it 'offshore'?

Just curious of your opinions as to what, where, how, when YOU feel makes for the word 'offshore', or 'offshoreonly', or 'offshore boat'.
Is it the place? oceanonly, greatlakesonly, loto-only, havasu-only?
The length of the boat?
The mfg. of the boat?
The style of the boat?
The fact you can't see land?:D

Let's hear it, hopefully without any nasty arguments or bashing (poking a little fun is OK)- far too many threads around here lately with that going on..........;)

It's a state of mind... sort of like.
Offshore=
Off your rocker=
Out of this world=
Way out there, just have fun!

You don't have to be in the ocean, though I prefer it, you can be in Lake Tohopekaliga, St. Cloud, Florida as long as you're in a Performance boat!!! :D :D :D (lol btw)

Well from what I heard on this board, Offshore refers to our boats, Onshore refers to TOO OLDS boat(s).:D

when i'm on a boat....i'm offshore! :D Dont matter to me as long as we all have a common interest

sean stinson 12-10-2003 11:21 AM

Offshore to me is any boat that is capable of going offshore whether it be the ocean or the great lakes or like conditions on any lake capable of producing such effects. So that being said I wouldn't want to take a 16' Tahiti Jet Boat out in conditions such as 3-4 plus conditions.

Any boat that makes you feel a little like Don Johnson!!!

I've always thought of offshore as meaning in the ocean. I'm thinking that living on the Jersey Shore for 34 years may have tinted my view a bit tho ;) Every time my 22 Donzi gets wet, it sees ocean, so i certainly consider it an offshore perf boat. That being said, i would never knock a performance boater that exclusively runs big lakes or bays where they can run into some waves. Flat bottom ski boat, or jet boat, or twin engine see doo....not offshore boats in my book, no matter how fast they go. Once i get a better tow vehicle, im hoping to get to some big lakes myself!!!

It means not having to turn, ever....well at least for 3000 miles.

Offshore = Can't see land in at least two directions. Waves (not WAKES) can get big enough to keep even the most die hard offshore enthusiest ONSHORE. So I guess The Great Lakes and the Oceans qualify.

Offshore boat to me means any boat you are crazy enough to stuff mass amounts of hp into and take into above mentioned waters.

:D:D

I'm kinda with Foul on this one. If there isn't a point anywhere on the body of water where you can't see land, then it's not offshore. This way I give you Great Lake dudes your props!:)

Waterfoul 12-10-2003 04:45 PM

Great Lakes = Inland Seas. And NO salt!!!! :D

No argument here, if it can sink giant freighters, it qualifies!

dyno 12-11-2003 01:53 PM

Offshore= "one mile out where the speed limit ends and the fun begins"

Downtown42 12-11-2003 01:59 PM

Any body of water that kicks 8-10 footers or more and not man made (boat) wakes

Well, the Great Lakes have those new fresh water sharks you know!! I think they used to be pike, but Dr. Evil made them into ill tempered pike and they are now killers!!!! Watch out for them!!!
