I recommend them to everybody.
Great little portable unit. If swimming off the stern, I will put one on my bow on a rubber mat and anchor off the stern so the wind blows the exhaust away from us off the nose. Always use a CO detector when you run anything on the hook. |
Anyone use the Coleman 1850?
It is very close in specs to the Honda 2000, weighs 10 lbs. more 1850 surge/ 1500 continous. vs 2000/1600. But, it's $499 vs $999, in Northern Tool catalog. |

Coleman uses a lawnmower-style motor. Constant speed. AC alternator.
Honda uses inverter technology to electronically convert DC to AC from the DC generator section. This allows the motor to slow down and speed up as load demands dictate. Little motor is designed from the ground up as a generator motor. Very quiet and fuel efficient. You get what you pay for. Not surprised at the price difference. (I have a Coleman 4500. Good reliable unit. Use it for portable light duty welding and home support when the ice takes out our power every few years). |
