OL guys, help me understand. Fountain ran aprox
144 mph for the speed record, O.L ran aprox 150
mph. So are you saying that as soon as the Fountain
goes over 144, the boat gets squirrelly. Only O.Ls
hulls can hit that number & stay in the water? I just
don;t get it. It seems to me, that a extra 4-5 hundred
pony's would put the Fountain in the ball park. As far
as the Fountain being a full race boat, whats the
difference between the Record holding O.L. Canopies?
What the hell does that have to do with speed? It only
keeps you from falling out! It seems more that you
guys just don't like Reggie. Hey, I don't know him. Maybe
he is an a$$hole, but I deal with a$$holes every day.
It doesn't mean they are not good at what they do.
Back4more, you own a 42 (sweet boat,love that Mitcher
T paint job) Do you think your 42 could handle huge power?

Hell their all VERY SQUIRRLEY at those speeds, this is very serious sh#t !. Deep V's aren't suppose to go this fast, I personally haven't been in Mr. Russels boat but I have two friends who have at BIG speed. Their response( they are both involved in racing and have been over 150mph in big cats) was WOW and I ain't gettin back in.
This isn't a slam against the boat it's the reality of what we're casually talking about. I've have no problem with Reggie, I owned one of his race boats and he did things for me that I will always be grateful for. The point is, at these speeds what it takes to go faster is truly exponential, each mph increase is a MOUNTAIN to climb. There are "walls" that ya can't seem to break through.

In my opinion, the difference between 144 and 149 is more like the difference betwee 75 and 105 in a big boat, you don't get there by adding 500hp you have to more than double it. At this level it takes more than just HP, it takes a little magic dust, and Fiore has found some in his set up, weight and bottom, he should be commended.

That said, IT SCARES THE SH#T OUT OF ME WHEN HE RUNS ON THAT EDGE, SO STOP IT !! If something bad happens it will affect all of us who dig this silly stuff.

I think the Fountain will drive the same at 150 it's just the getting it there. More power is not always the key, it may just start to get more prop slip and not go much faster. As far as the canoopies they are more aero dynamic, I feel that the Fountain has the best chance at getting the record back and not killing anyone. My point to big HP and speed is what if you take a 42 Tiger that runs nice around 100 mph what is it going to feel like at 150. I don't want to be the first guy to do it.

My only triple digit experience on an OL (our boat only runs in the low 90's ) was over the past summer. I got a ride on Russell's boat where the conditions were mild lake chop. He ran 120mph and other than the fact that we were zipping by things at light speed, the 42GTX (as Scott has mentioned) literally felt like it was only cruising at 60 mph. The boat was incredibly smooth, dialed, and rock solid.
When I stepped off the boat an acquaintance with a 42 Tiger approached me and asked me about the ride. He was flabbergasted and didn't believe me that the boat ran so smoothly at 100+ mph. He questioned me about the handling and wondered if the GTX was bouncing from rub rail to rub rail. I explained to him that I felt very safe and that the boat didn't flinch an inch side to side. I have no experience with Cigs., they are beautiful boats, but are they squirrely with BIG HP and 100+ speeds?

I have a buddy that has a 25 Baja Outlaw with about 800 hp I got in that thing once he hit 88 on the gps and said he had 4 more to go. I have never been that scared in a boat before.

Maybe I can help this topic a little. I am a Junior Nav Arch with Canada's largest shipbuilding company. It's not the horsepower, it's the hull and setup. Anyone can go to Sterling and buy 1480HP engines. The boat and setup makes the difference. Congrats to Mike and OL. He and the crew have found something that really works!

WickedWon, well said And when you slap me around
with a little reality about the speeds we are talking,
I have to agree with you. ( By the way, that is one
Sweet ride you've got). The only thing I don't like,
is the "mine is better than yours" crap on this board.Iknow a lot
of guys are pretty proud of their rides, and no
one should be downing anything that someone else
has. Weather they love or hate Fiore or Reggie, just
having any kind of performance boat makes all of us,
lucky "Sons a *B!tches".
