Can anyone suggest a good cruising guide to Grand Bahama and the Abacos? How about marinas in West End and Lucaya?

If you want to go straight across from Florida leave from Riveria Beach. There's a public ramp there and you can leave your trailer. It's 120 east on the compass, leave early am , watch the weather - if there's a northerly wind don't try it like we did - haha. You'll run into West End and follow land to the right. You'll run right into Port Lucaya. Atleast we did. Pelican Bay Hotel is a great place to stay , nice outside bar. Good luck - BH

Cruising Guide to the Abaco /ahamas by Steve Dodge is the bible for cruising the Abacos. You can leave from many ports in Florida to Bimini, Grand Bahama or to Walkers Cay. The upper Abacos is un spoiled versus Freeport or Nassau. Must be very careful of winds (nothing from the North over 10 knots) for crossing the stream. If you want specific waypoints I have them for the Abacos and the Berry Islands (took Cigarette their for a week last year).

By pass West End for Port Lucaya. The marina there is nice and alot of good hotels in the area from $50.00- $500.00 a nite. The new casino at Our Lucaya is scheduled to open on Dec. 15th so if you stay in that area, there is no reason to go anywhere else in Freeport.

Cruising Guide, Are you boating over there????? If so, and I don't mean this in a ugly manner, if you're worried about needing a guide to follow over there, you should ride with someone who's either done it before or is very familiar w/ electronics and the Gulf Stream. The waves you see as you leave the cut and enter the Atlantic will double in size 1/2 way there -- and that's not even addressing the current/ shallow areas etc...
