You are correct- he has an ATP (airline transport pilot)
rating, and multiple type-ratings in various turbo-jet aircraft. He is a very accomplished pilot.

On the same site where I found that picture, I read that the noise was the reason he no longer lives where he used to. Something about him being the only person to be kicked out of a fly-in community over airplane noise. :D

From what I have heard from the aviation community, he is a pretty nice guy. Used to have an old fighter jet, maybe still does, he and his buddies used to dogfight together.

The Missus met him one time at WalMart, he was there for a book signing or something.

John T used to attend high school near me, famous for Lady Morrow, Lindberg's wife.

John T lost an engine in his Lear a few years back, right in the middle of a terrible storm. He amazed and impressed the flight controllers in Washington D.C. I believe, with the AAA++ professional manner and skill with which he landed it.

Later he joked about how how his friends stopped ribbing him about his constant engine out, wind shear etc. potential disaster practice. In his case, practice made perfect. Smart guy!
