OT: truck sledding?

KIDS DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!

And i always thought me and my friends were the only idiots who did this sort of thing!!! LOL :D We started doing this back about 1988/89 around the parking lt of the local college. the security always kicked us out after about an hours worth of fun :D then we went and found a big ole parking lot behind the cook county court house that no one ever plowed!! man those were the days! :D

Wally 12-17-2003 11:07 AM

we used to tie ropes to the bumper of my buddies k-5 blazer and sleds, than fly through developements, I can't tell you how many mailboxes my head broke from him flying sideways around turns.(explains alot:D ) only gets scary when the truck spins all the way around and the tire is coming towards you. God we were stupid when we were kids.

rainmn 12-17-2003 11:25 AM

We used to do it with our snowboards strapped on. I used to live right near an office park, and when we got a lot of snow, the place was like a skatepark for snowboarders and trucks. Stairs, rails, picnic tables, whatever. If we left the tow rope long enough, the driver could stay on the roads and you could get to almost anything on the boards.
Funny thing about this is that I wasn't really a kid when we did this last...more like 25 or so. :D

Great movie Wally. Reminds me of when we would tie a rope around an old car hood and drag it behind a truck in my mom's horse pasture. Then it was like king of the hood, whoever stayed on the longest out of the 4 of us was king.

My mother was over for dinner the other night and she was mentioning how grateful she is that my little sister survived her youth with me as her older brother.
Is used to sling her around the neighborhood on a sled towed by my trikes and quads. Only difference was I realized she couldnt hold on under extreme acceleration or whipping her around turns so I tied the rope to the sled. There was no bailing out.

She is better for it today Im sure ;)

Last year during the snow storm that hit Annapolis we had a bogey board behind my truck. The best part was when you got into the deep snow and the board would float on top. Cant wait for more snow this year!!!!

ofshore 12-17-2003 11:48 AM

We use to go up to our cabin in mio, mi and tie two tractor tire inner tubes behind the truck and go up and down the back roads. It's amazing that no one ever got hurt.

Wally 12-17-2003 11:51 AM

Ah! i see there are others out there as brave as us! LOL!!! Best one we ever had was when we got creative and made an insert to my truck hitch....it was a 2x2 bar about 10' wide with eye bolts on it spaced out.......i had about 8 or 9 guys being pulled behind my K-5......there was enough pull on it that they could actually spin the truck out if they all went to the side at the same time! LMAO!!! :D

Car hood behind a snowmobile! HANG ON!

MitchStellin 12-17-2003 12:44 PM

Hey Rainmn, can you say Base Weld!!!! I bet your petex looked like swiss cheese. We used to do this behing horses, by the time I was old enough to drive a was a little smarter and just surfed the hood!!:D

rainmn 12-17-2003 12:53 PM

No biggie, I never get rid of old snowboards. :D
I have close to a dozen in my attic, mainly for these purposes. They also work good for very early and very late season riding. Rocks? What rocks?

Wardey 12-17-2003 02:59 PM

Yep, We used to do it with a tube tied to the bumper of a 4x4. In the snow covered parking lots I remember hitting 60 mph. Then we did it up the mountain roads until a buddy of mine's girlfriend slung him off the mountain side into the trees. Broke his leg in (2) places. We tied his leg up in splints and off the the ER we went !!! Dave:D

CigDaze 12-17-2003 03:07 PM

Ah yes...Of course, what fun! :D
I remember days like that.

That video just brought a tear to my eye. I saw myself and everyone of my friends in there. No kidding. That looks like something I would do. Well, might have done. Well, still do it. :)

When we get snow here I usually make a phone call to a friend to find out that PD is not out unless it's an emergency. So, let's take advantage of it!! ;) City streets are made to be used.

Take the car/truck hoods and throw em away boys. You don't need them anymore. Trust me on this one. I just so happen to have access to as many plastic truck bedliners as I care to get. These things blow a car hood out of the water. Plastic works great on snow! LOL My wife is still wondering when her 34 yr old husband will grow out of his adolesance. (sp) LOL

Play king of the bedliner next time ya get a chance. ;)

Me, My brother and the local kids used to use snow skis and tow each other behind our snomobiles. Thank god this was 1977-78 when a fast sled was 60mph !!!

We used to do the same thing but with four people on a tobagon and a snowmobile back in '69.

One winter my buddy was towing my car home with a chain (I was steering mine). As we turned a corner he thought he'd be funny and whip me around the turn. As mine slid sideways, his followed. We both went spinning off onto a golf course.

Audiofn 12-18-2003 06:06 AM

Yup we used to do that as well. Wish I could still get my buddies to do it with me :D:D We were at Steamboat Springs once and the the president of the mountains son and I were doing that on ski's behind his truck through town one night :D:D

RollWithIt 12-18-2003 08:42 PM

We used to just grab onto the back bumper of a truck goin down the street when it was snow covered and used our shoes like skis! Talk about stupid.

Formula Outlaw 12-18-2003 08:55 PM

Was sliding, spinning, just going crazy with an old Scout one winter, went around and around and around, then going right through the middle of the parking lot, we ran over 14 inch high concrete curb/whatever that was totally hidden by the snow. We were going about 45/50 when we hit it. Tore the entire undercarriage out from underneath that old 63' Scout, it literally did not have one wheel on the chassis. Just sitting on the frame. Cops came but they were laughing too hard to yell at us. Ended up costing us $ 150.00 to get it hauled away. Last we ever saw of it. Oh well....

boot 12-18-2003 11:56 PM

We took a hood from a 79 ford truck and towed it behind a bronco . Down the road ........ With NO SNOW !:D The hood got hot and burned our asses ,so we put a couple hay bales on it to sit on . Caught the hay on fire !!!! , AND burned our asses !!!!:p
