anybody in Trucking?

i need to get a huge sheet of carbon fiber shipped from LA to NY. Any idea on price?

thanks!

We ship a lot daily on LTL carriers like USF Holland, Yellow, ABF, etc. Bulk has as much to do with it as weight, also how easy it is to break.

If the shipper has a carrier they get a good rate with, then use that company. Even if it is collect, the discount with pass through.

Make sure they insure it if it will break easy!

I assume it is thin, and would estimate freight charges from $65.00 to $85.00.

Good luck.

puder 12-17-2003 02:19 PM

oh taht isn;t bad at all!!!!

the guy who is making it seems to think its goign to be prohibitivley expensive!

105mph_38_2003 12-17-2003 02:34 PM

if it is thin then the rate will be much cheaper. Last LTL load I had goingto NY from LA was 10' and I charged him .65 cents a mile...And of course you get the OSO discount;)

puder,

cig1988 who keeps his boat in mt sinai is in trucking. send him a pm

sean

btw...at .50 cents per mile from LA to NY would run abotu $1000????

puder 12-17-2003 02:50 PM

OUCH! the good news is I wasn;t plannignon sending it via a private semi!!!

80k lbs worth of cargo capacity for a 4lbs sheet of carbon fiber is kinda overkill :D

Puder, I have shipped a lot of fiberglass bed covers thru the truck circuit, not that bad at all, usually from Cali to FL was runnin me 125. but box it up good. I just shipped a bravo 1 drive for 85 to Utah from Ok thru AAA Cooper Transportation. Look them up best price that I could find.

puder 12-17-2003 05:31 PM

cool yeha the boxxing will be up the guy who makes the sheet for me.

mama tryed 12-17-2003 10:53 PM

Puder,,, LTL [less than Truck load} Carrier will definitely be the best way to go!! Just make sure its Crated and you should have no problem!! The cost is determined by how much room it takes up and the Value of the Freight!!! FYI,, Union Carriers are slow and Expensive. Shipping Collect means the Person Receiving the Freight Pays the Cost, where Prepaid means the Shipper pays the Freight Charges
Dock was right on the Money, because Large Co's have STEEP Discounts!! as much as 65%
I can get you the Phone No's to most LTL Carriers if you Need Them!!

Hey, Not to intrude ,,,, BUT , I need to get a cabinet shipped to Ohio. What do I do ? Just call the company you mensioned and have them come to me to get it ?

Thanks , Sorry Puder ......... Joe :D

puder 12-17-2003 11:42 PM

joe no prob!

JPD Motorsports 12-17-2003 11:45 PM

boot call a couple of freighters and tell them the size, some will come and charge for it, if you can haul it to them they tend to have a little mercy on ya. let them know details of size and weight

mama tryed 12-18-2003 06:26 AM

Joe,, You got it!!! You can call the Freight Co. and they will come to your Place of Business, and Haul it Away!! I was trying to think who we Use, up there, I think its R.L. Carriers but I'm not for sure!! When I get to the Office, I'll try to post the Tel. No's. The most Important thing to remember, when shipping LTL is, damages and Claims!! When signing a Bill of Lading,, always note on the Bill itself, if the box is torn, if its smashed, opened, upside down, etc..., Always open the shipment and inspect, if possible!! Concealed Damage makes for an Un-happy Camper!!:D I hope I'm not Boring everyone with Details,, but you need all the AMMO. you can get when you have to File a Freight Claim.. They HATE paying for Damages!!!!!

cig1988 12-18-2003 06:39 AM

Puder, If this is all crated it should not be a problem to ship. I usually have 10 trucks a week in California with a consolidation terminal outside of L.A. I can have it here in a week but you'll have to come to Ronkonkoma to pick it up. If your interested call me at work (631)439-2045 till 2;30 after, on the cell 516-380-9326. I'll get you a price from the "boss" and am sure it will be very reasonable.

BODYSHOT1 12-18-2003 08:00 AM

puder,

check with outer42 (Scott Applegate)...he owns a trucking company....

klmken 12-18-2003 09:45 AM

Puder,
What's it for? Just curious...

GregP 12-18-2003 11:19 AM

Check ABF freight, they have a pretty good on-line discount for infrequent shippers. You save a bunch by doing terminal to terminal. You can print all the paperwork from your computer, then just have him drop it and you pick it up at the nearest terminal.

Just a warning,

Carbon Fiber is not the easiest stuff to work with, but looks cool when done, and strong!!!!!!!
