I have triples, and all 3 of mine have the low water pickup CLE lower units. I get plenty of pressure, and like someone said above, you just trim them up in shallow water and there is no mud sucking problem. I think that speed is very impressive considering the beam and weight of the boat.

I'm working with the Yamaha guys to get my rig dialed in right now, unfortunately I haven't been able to spend much time in FL. so I haven't gotten much done. They cured the overheat problem with the new ( redesigned ) intake grates. I couldn't believe that the minor change in a $2 piece of plastic could be responsible for taking us from 2-4 lbs. of water pressure to 12 lbs. at 65mph, man you never stop learning ! I'm running labbed 4 blade 26" Bravos 72.6mph at 5800 rpm turning them in. We're gonna swap the lowers and try them out to see what happens. I love the motors but the Yamaha guys know nothing about going fast, but they're learning. They've been great about working with me, the performance market is so small that they have yet to really look at it. The powerhead is awsome but the lower unit is lacking for speeds in excess of 70mph. I wanted to be able to cruise at 65mph on 87 octane without alot of noise or worry, I got that. I'll keep ya posted.
All of the pics of my boat came out fuzzy, here's one. |

This guys Yams have LWP... his drive seemed to be mounted pretty high. The boat was brand new, so he didn't know what top end was.
He did say that trimming the motors out didn't make too much difference as far as bow lift... The LWP inlets were about three inches below the running surface of the boat, which probably would have a terrible effect if the engines had standard pick ups.. Sorry Wicked, this boat has Yams.. Twins though.:D |
