OT - Suburbans

I just bought my wife an 03 Suburban and was wondering if anyone has any pics of tricked out Suburbans. I need some ideas. I am taking it today to have 20" rims and tires put on it. Is there a good website to buy aftermarket parts for these vehicles?
Thanks in advance!

Check out the Let's do Business thread.
There are a lot of members that are in the aftermarket parts sales... I'm sure someone will be able to get you exactly what you are looking for...

I had a hooked up suburban back in the day..I'll scan some pics for you later today.
As far as aftermarket products.. rims- www.tirerack.com
Stereo- www.Carmedia1.com

exhaust/Supercharger- Stillen automotive

Xenons- www.supremepowerparts.com < they also have a nice selection of rims. I had Antera 301's from CEC, which were purchased through Supreme power parts in CA.

To much "trickin" will void your warranty and wreek (sp) havoc on certain major parts!!
I am a GM certified tech and have had warranty claims rejected because of Add-On equipment. But as they say .....To each his own!!!;) :D

Will the rims void my warranty? They had some new ones for sale with 20" rims already on them.

bikini..of course there always is the GREY area!!;)

Thanks for that info Troutly...I may need that with my warranty claim with Mercruiser that I'm dealing with now!!

We have had GM send out reps to look at certain problems with add ons. Most of this is handled with a call to GM Assistance by the consumer. And in most cases the consumer wins. There are always loopholes!!

.

Ford has a manual that outlines their warranty policies and how they coincide with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
You have to cover you're a$$ if you own a Blue oval!!!;) ;)

Just kiddin' Troutly, I don't want you to call the cops in my area and have 'em bust my balls!!!!:D

LOL....Believe it or not, Troutly knows what he's talking about here. (can't believe I'm saying that) :D

I keep myself pretty educated on this subject considering what I do for a living. I have had to go to bat for customers on more than one occasion with their dealer. I am really amazed at what some dealers will put off on the aftermarket industry. I can put a simple grill guard on a truck, the bed will rust and they blame it on the grill guard. I know, sarcasm. But pretty much true.

Knowing your rights and how the products you are installing affect your vehicle will help you in the long run. I have not and will not be bullied by the service writer.

I am a subcontractor for Ford and most of the manufacturers. I also work for aftermarket warranty companies. It is amazing the things that can happen on cars due to aftermarket accessories. Even a reusable air filter can kill a Mass Airflow sensor because of the oil used on the filter. Ford in particular is pursuing aftermarket mods on both regular and extended warranty claims when a major failure has ocurred. The reason that Magnuson-Moss will not come into play is that when a modification to the original equipment is made then it does not apply. In other words-a rebuilt ECU is okey dokey, but a chip is not because it changes the way the engine/transmission runs. When it comes to oversized wheels and tires the only thing that might give you problems are unusual suspension wear(common with 20's on SUVs) or failed wheel bearings(also common due to improper offset).

larger diameter tires can void warranty, and will hold up against magnuson/moss.

In reality, the larger tires throw off the computer triggered shift points and torque converter lockup points. This can cause hunting of gears on the freeway and can cause component failure.

Be advised that the BEST idea is to combine large tires with a gearing change.

just an FYI.

As far as 20's, there are some good looking rims out there. Stay away from the floating center spinners.

Billet grille insert, Escalade chrome door handles, Escalade gauge cluster insert - those are some relatively inexpensive additions that make a difference.
