Where to go snowmobiling?
 

I want to take a couple days off over the holidays and go snowmobiling. Hopefully not more than 8 or 10 hours away.

I'll need to rent a machine and hopefully find some decent snow.

So far, I see Old Forge NY. Where else should I look?

Old Forge is the absolute best Ron. The trail system is second to none in this area and the Bars and Restuarants are great. It snows there almost every day.

So if I rent for the day, we can take the machine to a resteraunt for lunch?

Can you tell this will be my first ride? Can two people go on one machine? Or do we need two for my wife and I?

i am going to be in North Conway NH renting a sled on Dec 29 and maybe 30th. head'n up there with a couple of friends from Boston.the more the marrier if your looking for a small group to join, gonna try and call Biggus when we get in the area he lives like a half hour or so away :cool: :cool: :cool:

we are renting from this place because they would give us sleds without guides :D :D lilman

Yes,in Old Forge you can go everywhere by sled,lots
of bars & resturants on the trail system. Nice ride
to Big Moose lake,great resturant & bar out there
(Big Moose Inn). Rent 2 sleds, It's not much fun for
the rider sitting on the back. Quebec is awsome
but it's a haul. Have fun & be safe! :)

My wife wants to be a sled B*tch, so it's a two seater for me. We'll just stay on the trails.

Any interesting trails like up mountains or is it all fairly level terrain?

In Old Forge its all backwoods & hilly terrain, You
can go thru Inlet Flats and ride all the way to
Blue Mtn Lake. I think you will really like it there.
I know I was very impressed the first time I went.
Its in the Adirondaks. Very senic. Old Forge is
on the chain of lakes, 1st lake thru 7th I think.

I have heard that the upper penisula of Michigan is pretty nice. Not sure how much snow they have though.

Thanks, we're all set. I reserved a Polaris 500 Classic two seater for $225 for the day. Resereved a cabin in Old Forge and we're in the middle of digging out all the old ski clothes.

I hope it snows while we're there. Should be a blast.

Where are you staying ?

There's a great place for pancakes and sausage right in town .... can't remember the name ???

You'll be able to stay out of the nasty stuf and still hit all the good stops .

Old forge is great .Some friends of mine went there this weekend to ride .I will let you no how the conditions are.
Where did you rent the sled from? Stay off the lakes (not safe yet)

I just got back from riding. In Old Forge as a matter of fact. We ride there usually once a week, Lake George area, Vermont and elsewhere 2 or 3 other days per week. I ride about 4,000 miles annually. I will PM you my contact info. Call me and I will give you full skinny. I know the trails like the back of my hand. To enter the trail system is about 45 minutes to an hour from home.

If you would like nice scenery and not have to worry about a million snowmobiles and have smooth trails, try a little more northeast of Old Forge at Clear lake. You can dump off at Charlies Inn (restaurant bar, with rooms). It is on Trail 7 and goes all the way to the Candian border. Smooth as can be and with out all the traffic or permits. I have ridden all of the trails in upstate NY and these I find to be some of the best.

Old Forge conditions are supposed to be very good for this time of year.

hey ron just a thought, ask about insurance if you are renting a sled. Went to old forge 2 years ago and on the last day a guy hit us(my wife and i both on one sled) knocked my wife out and did 1900 worth of damage to the sled that came out of my pocket! wife was ok but if they offer insurance for a couple of bucks per day get it. other than that it is great up there, just don't get lost.

I own a REV never rode it. All my buds are telling me it is a blast.
I cant wait to ride.

It was incredible. The re-engineering work is phenominal. The ONLY complaint is the sled I rode needed better wind protection but that is an easy fix. Transition from seated to standing is instantaneous. Probably the easist sled to ride I have ever been on. You are not forsed into the cowling like last year. Extremely comfortable. The suspension...well what can say? Let me think? Does THE VERY BEST OVERALL PACKAGE I HAVE EVER RIDDEN suffice? Turning? How does EFFORTLESS sound?

How much snow you have at the lake?? Central to northern NH is reporting around 20 inches for a base. Hopefully this rain coming won't take too much snow.

I talked to Shane earluier tonight.
Mid 40 and 1-2 inches of rain comming tonight. Not good for the riding at all...prey for snoe this weekend.

Cesna, Where in NH are you? My father has a place in Walpole,(SW NH) about 20mins from Keene.

Shane, Just picked up my second REV. I kept my 800 and got a 600 HO SDI for Melissa for x mas. I got a place in Old Forge from Jan thru March. Let me know when your going to be in that area. I will be there every friday night thru monday mornings. we shoul organize a OSO get together on sleds???? Happy Holidays to all.

About 20 minutes NE of Portsmouth, NH.
I used to live in Jackson, Nh (just outside of North Conway). Shane's been up a few times.

This rain sucks but they are calling for heavy snow on Thursday.

See that..your already gettin the bug...prey for Snow.
This rain is not good, hopefully big snow will come Thursday and Friday.
