Attn: S.C.O.P.E 'ers - recommend a shop - Northwest OC

You don't have to be SCOPE. Any OC boater will do.

Need recommendation for a good shop for tune-ups, winterizing, repairs, etc.

I live in Northwest OC (Sunset Beach/HH area). Something close to home would be a huge plus. DSM is just a little too far for what I need.

Any thoughts on shops to < go to/stay away from > would be greatly appreciated. Seen a SCOPE'er today at the Starbucks in HB getting his caffeine fix before Catalina Ski Race practice. . . . that's what brought this to mind.

Precision Marine, Huntington Beach

Look for Joe Baca ... He takes care of my boat like it's his own .... and your bill will be close to what you expected :eureka:

Thanks Cig1. . .
My last run of the season may have been the HH boat parade. Don't know if you were there, but it was a real nice night.

Good thing is, in SoCal is the next season starts Jan 1 of '04.

There's also an Extreme Marine in Los Alamitos and an Extreme in Santa Ana. And in Costa Mesa, there's Dan at Archer Marine.

Cig1. . . I can only go to one of 'em. Who's your pick? I'm having a hard time finding Precision. Where exactly are they located?

Excellent - Graham St. is right around the corner. My boat is in Huntington Harbour.

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on OSO.

rouxsterre 01-12-2004 09:02 PM

Dropped the boat off @ Precision Marine today.
Talked to Joe and Mark. They seem UNGODLY eager to please - especially when they asked where I heard of them (I told em a couple SCOPE'ers on OSO).

I may need specific names, to make sure each of you gets his due.

Nort(on) ?
Cig1 (Gary - I think ?)
Sean Stinson
Mike J ? (no clue)

Big, good-lookin American-flag Tiger was in the shop. Yikes.

Yes, both Joe and Mark are awesome. You won't be disappointed. One thing I especially liked was that if something was going to cause the bill to go beyond the quote, Joe would call me and explain beforehand, what-how much-why. You won't show up to pick up the boat and find a bill for double the quote you're expecting.

Precision Marine was a great recommendation.
Picked the boat up a few days ago. The bill was exactly as expected - NO surprises. The work order was customized exactly to what I wanted to spend. Just the work that needed to be done. They gave everything a once-over and advised me of work that may be needed somewhere down the road.
When I picked up the boat, it had obviously been carefully cleaned, and was in better condition than when I brought it in.
Joe and Mark were awesome. They have gone way above and beyond, and I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.
Gary, Nort, and Sean Stinson were acknowledged for their referral. Thanks again guys.
