baja 40' outlaw
does anyone know much about the 40 outlaw. looking at one with 2 575sci's with xr drives. looking for a boat that will handle big waves at the lake of the ozarks. are the 575's good motors and are there any good upgrades you can do to them. comparing it to 42 fountain, and 38 formula
|
A good friend of mine has a 40' Outlaw with 3x500EFI's with ext boxes and stock bravos. It runs a solid 80 in smooth to rough conditions. I have been out in rough water in it but he didnt push it. I think 2 575's would be underpowered. 3 would be nice. Nice boat, need big power. There is another 40 at Texoma with 3 850's that runs 105 ish.
|
It depends on what you are looking for. I don't think that this boat with twin 575's is underpowered. It isn't going to be a 90 mph boat, but it is not underpowered. It wil handle the LOTO water relatively well, but you will not win many races. It will be slower than a Fountain with the same power.

If I recall correctly HIGHTIDE has one PM him. Tell him I sent ya :D

40 outlaw
just spoke with the baja rep who drove this boat for all the baja functions and poker runs. the boat ran 82.1 in fresh water on lake michican and in texas, he said the whipple cooler and the az speed kit will get another 150hp and would push the boat to 90. he said the stepped hulls are faster but the 40 will outrun them all because you can run 80 through anything and they cant
|
82.1? Hmmmmmmmmmmm:rolleyes:
|
HOW FAST? :D Well it is a Baja :p
|
there is an article in powerboat on this exact boat. its was there brochure boat with poker run cabin and light layup. it ran 80.1 from the factory. they put different props on it and it ran 82 at texoma and lake michigan. the 90 speed came from whipple and arizona speed as an estimate of speed gain
|
Maybe you can get Them to put it in writing before you buy it!
|
boat wasjust delivered today at loto we took it out for a run it was 60 degrees. my buddy gps the boat at 80.3 in front of shooters on two passes. it is fast, alot faster than my 36 and it ran 73. the boat weighrd 8800 lbs when the lifted it on to the trailer. going to put the inteercollers and a speeds upgrade and gain 150hp/ looking for 90mph. will report back in and send pics. boats graphics are awesome. best ive ever seen and the boat is in perfect condition
|
wiggler4490 , congrats.
sounds like you found an awesome boat! |
I'm a little confused. So you bought the boat? I'll assume so if you're going to start doing mods to the motors.
BTW, I seriously doubt you'll gain 10 mph by just doing those changes. I think you'll really need to crank the boost up for that much of a gain... IMHO. |
Am I missing something here ? a 40 Baja with twin 575's doin 90 MPH ?
|
40 outlaw
spoke with teague and arizona speed. they told me the chillers add 150hp, it reduces boost, so they will supply me with new msd, pulley, and rechipped ecu and it will run 6 pounds of boost.. also thinking of boxes and blueprinting hull. all of them agree 90 is probable.
|
Boxes without doin shorter lowers will just slow you down.
Might be a good idea to upgrade the head gaskets. Sounds like a nice boat...post us some pics if you can. |
I have to agree with High-Tide this is not your average BAJA. Maybe "wiggler4490" can provide additional details of this boat.
Sound like a hell of a boat much like High-tides http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...threadid=57219 |
Are you shure they didn't
"sneak in" the 3rd engine and drive ?;) :D I've seen 40's with trip. 500's run about that ( low 80's) As High Tide has said, 74 is about the norm stock. What size props, and what rpm's were they turning ? The dealer I bought my boat from had a 40 with 575's / chillers, turned up boost, no boxes, he claimed it ran around 80, and this claim was from a boat salesman ;) :D Sounds like a hell of a boat. I'm going down to LOTO later today, for the weekend, will you be still down? I'd kill for a ride, I havent been on a boat since October, I need a "fix" jt |
The man just said 80.3 on GPS. I suppose GPS isnt accurate now? You guys are never satisfied. :o
|
They just have a hard time excepting any clams about Baja's
Boat only weight 8800lb... |
this boat was tested and gps's by powerboat in 2002. I saw the article and I talked to the actual driver on the run. as the article states the boat ran 80.1 a fact. I also talked to the marina in michigan about the weight, and in fact it was just a little over 8800. boat has no equip. gas nothing with comp cabin. radar used at lake was stalker, I also spoke with another guy who has twin 575's and he runs 76 with regular cabin. the hull was blueprinted, but I dont know how much that adds. and it has labbed 4 blade bravo props. boat rpm's were around 5200 . Called baja and they said with regular cabin with regular layup on 40 is 9300lbs. so that sounds about right.I will say everyone has told me to put chillers on the motors and it will gain 6 to 7 mph with 6lbs boost I know baja made the boat for top speed poker runs.
|
Hey wiggler, good luck with the new 40. I don't care what kind of speed you see you have a great boat enjoy.
|
Does everybody need a polygraph to accept this, sometimes we all take this stuff a little too seriously. The big Outlaws are awesome boats for the money and ride. They can be set up to go pretty fast whether people believe it or not.
Congrats, on the awesome ride! |
