Were looking for a new boat in the 26-28' range, this is why I was critical of the 27 fastech, I dont care about ANY boats bigger than 29..

I had a 89 272 and there was a ton of room in the cockpit and the cabin. I think around 92 formula went from a true 27' plus the platform to 27' including the platform. This is where they made a mistake. My old 27 had way more room than the newer ones. By doing this they have made it difficult for people on a budget to get into a new formula. People want the 29 or bigger because of the room. This forces people to look at other manufactures for there needs. Formula is one of the best built boats on the market. It is a shame that formula has destroyed the 27 and turned it into a shoebox.

Chris, check the cockpit and cabin of a 280 Velocity, much better layout, IMO, then the Formula or Fountain. As an added attraction it will be faster. <g>

Guys,, I never said anything about the quality,, I think formula builds a solid boat, BUT,, their dash's have been junk and ugly in many of their boats. Anyway,, if you happen to go to a boat show check out the 271, you will see what I mean..


The stupidest thing I saw is the knob in the middle of the panel on the passenger bolster they could have atleast recessed it, your gonna tear up some knees on that sucker..

None of these boats have been Pieces of Chit. They were all high quality with great factory backing. They are not the fastest boats, nor the roomiest in their class. They are one of the overall best built production boats out there.

I will agree that the 271 could have more room...Baja and Sonic are the only two in the 26-27 foot area that I would consider as roomy.

Trout,, no doubt the bigger formula's are very nice.. local guy bought the 38 w/ storm graphics and I must say that its a beauty, but very pricey,, got any openings at your precinct ??

if you are looking in the 26-28 ft arena, I think it makes sense to look at the 29s as well. You may have stated that you looked at the 292. I was in the market for a 27 as well & bought a 29. I am 6'4"/250. You will be happy in the short & long run by adding the 29' to your range of choices.

I have to agree with the others on here. Being 6' 230lbs myself, roominess is a big issue. I can remember looking at some of the boats at the last Miami show and being dissapointed once I got inside of them. I thought the fountain 27, and the velocity I looked at were a little cramped. Dont get me wrong, very nice boats. But just too small. What did impress me, the 29 outlaw with racing style interior. That boat had a large amount of room in it. Its a shame that designers dont take the comfort of larger boaters into account.
