The way you make up for buying a diesel is:
1) The ease of pulling the boat around
2) The fact that I know many cummins diesels with over 300K miles that still run like new
3) When trailering big boats long distances the diesel trucks usually go a lot further due to better gas mileage and sometimes larger tanks. I can piss in a bottle if you can give me a 1000 miles per stop on a haul
Gas and diesel both have their advantages and disadvantages. You have to weigh out what means more to you.

Once you tow with a diesel you will not want ot go back to gas.
Before I purchased my first diesel in 99 I was a little hesitant, but after owning 4 of them now I will not go back.
Stevel,
At what RPM does the gas motor make the same Torque??? you can cruise in a diesel at low rpm with a heavy load and the transmission won't be hunting for the right gear.

Diesel!!!
The newer Cummins are much quieter than the older ones, and the performance is impressive.
I agree w/Cuda!
These engines are well proven and will outlast any gas engine without a doubt.
Very happy with mine, and I haven't even begun to put the performance enhancers on it yet.....

I have a 98 1500 with the 360 and I get 11-12 on the highway and less than 8 towing 6000 lbs at 70 mph. I hate it!! Love the truck, hate the mileage. If I had to do it again (and I won't for a while unfortunatly, $$ is a big issue right now) I'd look for a diesel.

nomomoney-whose products did you go with? Was it a noticeable difference?
Gottahaveit! ran my truck on his G-tech one day and I don't remember exactly what the times were...I think 11 sec 0-60 and 18 sec qtr or something like that. Have you had any tranny issues?

105---have the afe cold air box,the edge chip, and the flowmaster system.the difference is awesome...my mechanic buddy says i am around 445 hp.from zero to sixty, scary fast....i also have a 4:10 rear end that helps alot..good thing about the chip.it plugs in on the fuel rail.there is no comuter altering.the chip just boosts the fuel pressure.i love it
