NYC boat show observations
Just got back from the show.I Met Reggie Fountain.
He was super Friendly. We chatted about 5 minutes. He seems like a real nice guy. Just some observations on the boats I saw. The center console fishers have really gotten hot. I loved the Consept 36. Beautiful paint, layout and rigging. The donzi 35 center console was also very nice & layed out well. Both were around 129k. The best value? Fountain 42 Executioner. Staggered 525's 85 mph.Hot looking dash, 229k. Sorry Formula guys, but the 35 with 500's at the same money. Its no comparison in my opinion. The Powerplay looked solid, but is boring as hell. Cobalts new stepped go fast was different. It has the steering wheel in the center, but off to starboard a little. Its 250k,does 66 mph & is kind of small. O.L is O.L always aw-some,but was that some ripple I detected in the deck of the purple one?!. Mike Fiore wasn't real interested in talking. No Cigs, Bummer! No Sonics, Bummer! Everyone used to be there. I would think the Tri- State area would be a huge market. Boy, Bajas are getting right up there on price also. Anyone who was there got any opinions? |
Glad I went on the day Power Squadron members got in free. Formula's were nice as always. The only company I saw with their whole lineup there. The new 47' Yacht is beautiful. Fountain had the biggest display I can remember in many years. Nice prices on the new "old" boats. OL paint wasn't red/yellow for a change. Except for the twin 525 boat the hatches were closed. Anyone know what power was in the triple or the 42 GTX? Lots and lots of fast sport fish in Donzi/Fountain. I hope that A/C has a better selection of offshore toys.

See everybody in AC.......
Much better show!!!! |
I wish I could make it to AC, but since I really live in TX and was only visiting over the holidays, I'll take what I can get at the NYC show.
Highlights from the first weekend were the Fountain display (we never get one as good at the Houston show), Outerlimits (never in Houston), Concept - especially getting to meet DaveP and his Dad and the best was running into a friend that I haven't seen since I moved. I had hoped Reggie or someone from the plant would be up for opening weekend, but it seems they opted for closing instead. Not the best show, but for me any chance to look at boats in the winter is cool. Houston will likely have Skater and Eliminator, but otherwise will be pretty light in the performance department. |
Originally posted by Jana Houston........will be pretty light in the performance department. You would think the 4th largest city, and I believe the second or third largest consolidation of boats (slips anyway) we would have a decent show. I'll go anyway, it's all we got. :( |
epeek,
Reggie is a showman and sales man. Glad you got to speak with him. With regard to OL and ripples. I will probably be slammed to pieces here for saying this but if you notice all of their boats come with WILD paint. And if you look closely, you will see this same ripple/wavy sides in many/most of their boats. I have heard the argumant that they put the wild paint onthem to "hide" the flaws in the glass work. I do NOT know this to be FACT but have heard it from several people. Either way, no one can argue that they build one hell of a fast boat and their paint work is always a show stopper. |
I wasn't impressed w/ O.L.'s upholstery work either, their stitching and seams didn't look to be the best, and the paint felt grainy like there wasn't any clear coat.

The Outerlimits were all dirty!!! mega hand prints, there were actually dustballs on the deck of the 37. beutiful boats... but for the big dollar... The Midnite express c/c was really cool
cheers |
