It's amazing that a little 16 foot boat could carry that much exlosive to do that kind of damage. I wonder if they found any bits of the suicide bombers stuck in the hull.

"The initial ARLEIGH BURKE-class guided missile destroyers have a full load displacement of 8,300 tons, are 506 feet in overall length and have a 62 foot beam. They are driven by two shafts powered by four LM2500 engines. Their maximum speed is in excess of 30 knots and they have a cruising range of 4,400 n. miles at 20 knots. The ships complement is about 30 officers and 302 enlisted personnel."

Notice the ammount of underwater damage?
I'll bet they had some of the explosives under the boat. A bomb underwater has more power than one above. When explosives detonate in water a pressure wave builds which can do considerable damage. A WWII depth charge does not have to contact a submarine to do damage. The hydraulic pressure wave does it all.
