1970 El Camino as tow vehicle?

Thinking about buying an El Camino with a 396 in it.
Will it tow a 24 Pantera?

Sure it will,

But when your stuck on the ramp, call me, and I'll pull the boat, and the El Camino out, in trade for a ride on the Pantera.

Just joking, it should do fine, on most ramps, there are a few down here I wouldnt try it on, Like 14th. street, and John LLoyd park.

something with less overhang in the back will tow much better. Sure it will pull it but you would be happier with a truck.

Thanks guys,
Rick, I have launched at both those ramps with a lighter boat!
What if I put 3 large samoans in the back when pulling up the ramp?:D :D :D
Bottom line is, I have to trade up from my Ford Ranger, any offers?

Put air bags in the back, don't get hung up on finding the ones for that truck? because you just need to get close. That will keep you from saging and will tighten up the rear end from sway. Otherwise it is no different than the station wagons our parents used to tow with.:D

My Grandfather use to tow his boat with a early model El Camino. We had a tough time getting out of some landings down here in the swamps and he only had a 16' boat. The 24 Pantera is a large boat for the Camino. The rear suspension will need some help because its the suspension from the rear of a car (Chevelle) and never designed to haul a lot of weight or tow.

Sure would look cool though!

OH wow I was thinking back to 1988 when I hooked up with a sexy blonde babe in a 1970 Camino

That's what I was thinking, it's the same color as the boat too:D

Caminos are cars. Not trucks. Please don't do that. Not to an old 70, for the love of god, man. :(

Back in the late 70's we were building bass boats and our primary tow truck was a red 72 ElCamino SS 454. We probably put 200,000 miles on that poor thing towing , but only 16'-17' , never 24' . Today we would be shot for such abuse.
