There is a way to legally avoid sales tax, however you need to invest $ to do it. It is worthwhile to do if you purchase a boat in excess of $300,000.00. If you have questions you can e-mail me at [email protected]

Ahh..but you do have a registration tax in missouri

In-lieu watercraft tax based on the purchase price of the vessel or proof that applicable taxes have been paid (trade-in credit is not allowed). If you purchased your vessel between August 28, 1990 and August 28, 1994, the old tax rate must be used. If the vessel was purchased after August 28, 1994 the new tax rate is used.
Net Purchase Price Old Tax New Tax
$50,000 or less $300 $650
$50,001 to $100,000 $600 $1,250
$100,001 to $150,000 $900 $1,850
$150,001 to $200,000 $1,200 $2,450
$200,000 and above $1,500 $3,050

I don't know if this helps or not, but here goes.

You say the boat is going to Tennessee. Arkansas does not have any sales tax on used boats. Don't know if this helps or not?

I registered all 4 of my boats in Delaware. 0% taxes Never a problem and you don't even need a Del. address. I was once stopped by a water cop and he asked my why do I live in PA. n have a boat registered in Del. I said this is the del. river right ?

I just read in the local paper tonight about a Mass. cop that lived in NH (no tax state) allowed several Massachusett friends and/or co-workers use his home address to register their cars/boats/ect. He has been arrested for it.
I'm not saying I wouldn't do it, don't get me wrong, Just saying cover your bases before you do anything. I think it is a very stiff penalty if caught. (IF)

You do not have to live in NH. I used to register in NH and I did not live there.

You are sapposed to register your boat in the state that you do the most boating in. I now register in Maine.
