Mat, nice wheels on that Excursion. Did you get the Hustler, Jeff

ofshore 01-12-2004 06:16 AM

jassman, does the dual exhaust bolt right on or did you have to modify something to make it fit? Just curious, when i put a different down pipe on my 96 i had to modify the fire wall seam to give it clearance.

Jassman 01-12-2004 07:10 AM

OF SHORE, the DPPI system is a direct bolt on. There are 2 types, Cat back and Turbo back. The down pipe off the turbo is grooved and somewhat restrictive, thats why I went with the Turbo exhaust.

The hardest part was pulling the stock down pipe off, the rest was a breeze, bolted right up, hangers and all, including the hanger for the drivers side rear, then I elected to cut a section out where the Cat. was and welded it back in, very easy, took it to my buddies place (Mr. Mufflers Underworld) and he charged me 100.00 to put it on, I actually helped him and we were in and out in 1 hour 10 minutes. Worth every penny, the sound is awesome, not too loud that you can hear it over the diesel with the windows up, doesnt resonate inside cabin, great even for long poker run trips.:D Jeff

boot 01-12-2004 02:11 PM

troutly, the Dppi sounds much better then the Banks "fart pipe" ! :D :D I prefer those over all the exhausts I sell .
It's the muffler . Dppi has a real good sound .not too loud and has no resonating sound up through the cab that chatters your teeth !

If it's going on a new 6litre , watch out !!
The turbo noise on them is REAL loud when you open up the exhaust ! Sounds like a fan belt squealing , but louder ! Like Jassman said , you might want to incorporate the cat into the system . ( possibly modified for air flow  !) It is worth getting the whole system rather then just a cat back. The bigger & better down pipe flows great . The cat is over 4" so you can easily adapt it to the new pipes , (with a welder) , and have great flow . I have had mixed feelings about the sound level. I have many that love it loud ! And many that installed the cats to tone it down . Either way , it's a great fitting , and working exhaust .

The single 4" exhaust will feel, and be ,more powerful . the duals loose velocity and loose about 25-30 ft lbs torque on the low end . where you need it . Doesn't sound like much but it is . Makes it feel lazy . Of course the chip helps that !:D The duals sure do look good though !! Joe

boot 01-12-2004 02:21 PM

Jassman, On your aluminized exhaust system , make sure you coat the area they welded with something (heat resistant ) to prevent corrosion . When you weld steel pipes it changes the properties and they corode fast . I use stainless wire in my mig . The cat is low grade stainless so you can get away with weldign it with stainless wire . But I would coat it with something . Eastwood has some "paint-on" stainless exhaust stuff. I haven't tried it , all mine have been full stainless systems . Joe

Not sure it this pic will come out as well. Ps thanks for all the info on my diesel.

Rico 01-12-2004 06:52 PM

troutly, boot, what clip, i want to see it.

Jassman 01-12-2004 08:41 PM

Troutly, I also dont like it too loud, especially cause I'm in my truck 8-10 hour a day, stop and start in a residential area. At first when I got it , it was a little loud, so i bought a resonator (cherry bomb) in place where the cat was suppose to go, that helped, but I still wanted it quieter, so i took that off and welded the cat back in, that did the trick, It quieted it down and also built a little more back pressure, Im pleased with it now, like Boot said its in the muffler, and if anyone would know it would be him. This might sound stupid, but call me tomorrow 228-216-0900 Ill put my cell phone on in the truck rev it up with the windows up and down, then go out side and let one of my workers pull away and then get on it a little so you can hear the sound level. Then give Boot a call, he will set you up.

Boot thanks for the info, Ill check it out. Thanks Jeff

Jassman 01-13-2004 06:47 AM

No problem Troutly, anytime you want, if I miss the call, caller ID will pick it up on my cell, Jeff

Rico,

I really like the way your truck looks, sweet ride for sure. I was actually wondering if you can give me information on your rims and tires you have on it now? I have a 99' F250 extra cab shortbed all white with various goodies on it for appearance. I am looking to possibly do rims and tires on it but do not want to add suspension lifts/bodylifts. Out of all the ones that I have seen in such a configuration, I really like the look of yours with the tires and rims the best. Hope you can give me the info.

DPT

Rico 01-13-2004 02:17 PM

dpt i like the set up without the lift also, the rims are not made anymore but they are centerline rims, i will get the tire size for you next time i go out to the garage, so keep checking this post. I agree to big doesn't look as good. I will see what else i can find for you for the rims.

DPT MOTORSPORTS 01-13-2004 02:28 PM

Rico,

Would also need the rim size also if you can find that too. Please feel free to private message me with the information. I will post a pic as soon as I get one scanned of my truck.

Thanx again,
DPT

Rico 01-13-2004 04:52 PM

I will do that dpt.

These 4 factory rims for sale. New rims coming cause the tire shop accidently scratched them putting them on the machine then trying to balance my tires, they dont look that bad, but at least they were honest and let me know, and replacement from factory is 1181.53, I picked out some aftermarket Eagle wheels from them, this is a good deal for someone. 400.00 buys them, make check to Tire Town Let me know, thanks Jeff 228-216-0900 cell

Have any of you guys checked to see what kind of milage your getting? I'm only getting around 14 the two times i checked. I only have about 1100 miles on mine so it still might improve plus i think the cold weather makes it worse but my 7.3 was getting 17+ and i thought the 6.0 was suppose to be better.

ST31 01-16-2004 08:56 AM

Mine is being built this week. Can't wait, it's been on order since Nov.. Hopefully it will arrive late next week or early the week after. Once it does I will post some pictures.

Everyday goofing around town I average 14-15 mpg. Highway 18-19 is pretty easy to get for me. It' just rare I run on the open road without a trailer hooked up.

That's the reason it's so hard to make it in the retail business. I hope they keep up the good work so we can all shut our shops down and not have to worry about it any more.

Can't wait for Edge to start putting a price guarantee on their products.

Sorry for the venting.

Buck

sorry buck, my intent was not to piss anyone off (my apologies if I did) just to try to pass along an observation. Chances are however, if someone is looking on the internet for any certain item they will more than likely look on ebay too.:(

No apology necassary. It's not you. You're just looking out for the members here and passing on info, that's all. No sense in shooting the messenger. ;) This is something that businesses like mine have had to deal with for a long time and will continue to deal with for a long time to come.

I'm more disgusted than mad.

Sorry if I came across wrong.

Now let's keep talking trucks!!!

Buck
