Boat Storage Security

Question in light of the recent, and some not so recent, boat thefts.
Of the boats that have been stolen, where they inside or outside?
I keep mine inside 90% of the time, been a few times left out and of course when traveling.
But it seems like alot are taken where stored or usually parked at.

THERE HITTING BOATS IN 3 LEVEL STORAGE UNITS, DRIVES AND PROPS. I DON'T THINK IT MATTERS WERE IT IS.

Drives and props are flying off boats right and left.

Seems like most of the stolen boats are disappearing out of open marina yards and personal driveways.

South FL seems to be a real hot-spot.

I think that "boats" are mostly being stolen from "outside", but SternLock is right on about parts, etc. being hit everywhere. I keep Outlaw on a trailer in my driveway, it has six padlocks, five chains, drive locks, I remove the props ALWAYS, and a sign that simply says "I SHOOT". It also helps I live in a neighborhood (38 houses on a peninsula/1 way in-1 way out) that practically no one know even exists. It's great. In four years here, the neighborhood has had one gas grill stolen and it was the nephew of someone living here.

guys,I have installed GPS tracking devices in customers boats that are hidden, you can track your vessell from anywhere, they do hook to your batterys through hidden leads, but also run on there own back up system!you can track it through your own computer at work or home!the were developed for auto use,but work great for boats,as long as there set up correctly!

My shop in Orange Beach is in a secure storage facility. In almost 3 years we've not lost anything. If you came to the APBA worlds it is the facility right next to the dry pits. We have digital monitoring, etc. If you want to bring your boat to OB I can hook you up with a nice place to park it.

I'm sure the theft rate is a big reason why insurance is through the roof, especially in Florida.

Stray thought - is it possible that hipo boats have a higher rate of loss for things like drives, etc, because they tend to sit on a trailer rather than in the water. I'm guessing it's a hell of a lot easier to swipe two Bravos from a Formula sitting on a trailer in the yard than to pull them off a Searay cruiser tied up in a slip...
