Ok, so can you describe the "scream" (really). When you turn it off, do you get a "water-hammer", (do you get a bang from your pipes) and do any other faucets do the same in the house?

Nope, no hammer. Sounds like a wistle. Only on that one faucet. Twisting/prying on it will stop it temporarily. And it waits till the water is VERY hot to wistle or "scream" Change the aerator maybe?

The faucet in the shower of my cruiser does this every couple of years. The regulating "cartridge" gets clogged up due to hard water at the lake and will drip and/or just trickle, ususlly on the hot side. It only takes me about 15 minutes to change out the $7 cartridge. Not sure how much effort your home one will be. Might be worth replacing the whole faucet, especially if its old, or the wife wants the "brushed" look.

Yup - change it. Cheap fix and if it is just that faucet, then I'd say that it's a good chance the aerator is tweaked, try a different type - just to be sure.

If that doesn't work, rip out the faucet and put one of these on the sink: :p

New house, check for a pinched line under the sink, they are all flexible now and may be too long and kinked

It's much easier to rebuild the faucett than to replace it. Replacing it can suck because it's hard to get a wrench on some of those fittings. Hopefully, it's a good one with the ceramic disk. Those are easily rebuilt. But first things first...take the lines off and try to back flush it. Hopefully the sediment will come out.

There has been a problem lately with the dip tubes on hot water heaters deteriorating. The tube actually crumbles into a zillion little peices. This will clog up your aerators, ( not to be confused with your aereolas). Unscrew the aerator and see if its full of little white plastic chips. Then go purchase another dip tube for the cold water inlet on the heater. The dip tube crumbling will also cause you to run out of hot water quickly. Many heaters have been recalled for this!

Take the screen off the faucet. It's most likely glogged with little white mineral deposits. You can clean them out. How old is your hot water heater? The heating elements build up a white mineral deposit that flakes off and travels through the pipes. You can try and drain the heater to empty out some of it.
