Motion Cat w/Scorpian small blks....anygood?
I was looking at this Motion cat, and I think I can buy it right.
What are your thoughts on the small blocks in this boat, and capability for ocean/gulf use? Can this boat run, or will it get spanked?Fuel economy and warranty vs. the "big block feel". Any thought are appreciated since you all will be seeing it if I buy, and I' rather hear it now than after I spend the $$$. http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/8/6/52063986.htm Thanks!! |
What size Motion? What's in the SB's?
|
Sorry, I didn't see the link before.
I don't know what "right" is, but the small blocks are a mixed blessing. The boat will be much better balanced with these over the BBC's. The down side is lack of speed and resale value (which can explain why you can buy it right). I don't know what the engines are putting out (you can build a stout SB), but I'd guess 95-105mph is a safe guess for speeds. Motion makes (made?) a nice boat. That one looks nice. Good luck. |
I have a WPM 28' that had 502's. I started with 550 hp small blocks and it ran 108 mph. now I have 330 hp stock cast iron crate motors. It runs 90 mph, great mileage, turns better, accelerates as good as the big blocks did. I would defiantly look at it serious, not to mention the insurance savings.

I certainly wouldn't have a problem owning a boat like that, but I seem to be one of the few that accept the SBC's place in offshore boats. In fact, I will never own a BBC powered offshore boat.
Nice thing about that particular package- you won't be breaking drives, and you won't be tearing your engines down every year. You would probably have to go to Pfaff to get a better small block engine than the 377 Scorp. Economy on these engines is superb as well- let's face it, fuel isn't getting any cheaper! On those rare occasions when you would get 'spanked', think of the looks on the faces when you lift the engine hatch and they find out they just barely outran a pair of mice.;) :D If it isn't fast enough for you, Dustin has a kit for those engines that puts its numbers better than the 500HP EFI.:) BTW, they sound pretty cool too........:D |
CASHBAR I THINK THAT BOAT IS IN FLA NOW. I WILL GO UP TO RPM AND SEE IF IT IS UP THERE STILL .

Hey if you find them too slow, then you can always put on a whipple! I'd go for it.

CASHBAR THAT BOAT IS IN FLA JIMMY IS GOING TO PICK IT UP NEXT WEEK CALL HIM MAYBE YOU CAN LOOK AT
IT BEFORE HE GET 'S IT . DAVE CALL JIMMY |
jafo i'm with you. i will steer clear of big blocks as long as i can. just dosent fit in with what i want in a boat. i would have no problem owning that boat. personally i would rather have that package than BBC's.  ad says it runs 100mph and thats all the faster i would want to run in an open boat.
refreshing the motors is much cheaper with the SBC's also |
I am not doubting anyone here, but I have a question...
I have a friend with a 33' Eliminator cat. The boat has 454 mag efi's in it and Bravos. His boat only runs in the mid 80's. That seems like a pretty big difference from the Motion cat listed with a few more hp and only 3 more feet of glass. Can anyone explain it? |
Cash Bar, You keepin the Cig? Or did the cat fever get to ya......As for speed it will be quicker then the gun..On the gulf coast thats plenty of boat most of the time, but on the east coast it might be a little small on alot of days..

Thanks for all the input.
Dave, I know the boat is here. That is my motivation. Speed2Lead, not sure what I'm doin', just kickin' around ideas.Think it would hang with yours? Greg |
That's a nice package there.
Many hours of trouble free boating. Have you looked at it yet? |

The Motion has a much wider tunnel then the Eliminator.(packs more air) I believe the Motion is also much lighter. |
Doug Did you get a motor for your boat yet?

Looked at it several times in Ga. Never thought about owning it.
Ironic that it would be a no-brainer if I still was boating mainly on Lake Lanier, but in Fla. mostly now so I'm concerned about pro/cons. It is really cool, new paint would make it over-the-top. Greg |
