best price on SSM VI's?

Where and how much? Brand new full package with everything. I know the retail is about $50k a side but where can I find the best price on a pair?

Beak Boater 01-15-2004 07:06 PM

105...If you are buying new, I would think Mike and Paul could get as good a deal as anyone. I am assuming these are for the 39 OL? I have heard talk of some reconditioned ones but not sure where they were sold from. Good luck!!!

Strip Poker 388 01-15-2004 07:10 PM

Boat builders are going to make money on the package.

I have a friend thats a dealer ,usually 10 over.Do you have a part # ?

jafo 01-15-2004 07:18 PM

The best deal I ever saw was on a new pair of them attached to a pair of new Chief 930Hp engines. They were also attached to one particular 39' Sutphen, that was discarded and sold to a new owner, who now needs #6 drives with engines attached. :D :p

All kidding aside- I think the best deals are going to be through a boat mfg. (when building a new boat) or high volume, high performance Merc dealer/rigger.

Thanks, and I do;)

C_Spray 01-15-2004 08:08 PM

I always heard that the best deal was to find someone interested in a pair of 900SC's, then buy the complete package from Merc and sell the engines.

JPD Motorsports 01-15-2004 09:09 PM

Try this link www.outdrives.com They seem to be pretty decent. Or www.govictorymarine.com Can't remember if they were listed or not, but they can get them as well.

JPD Motorsports 01-15-2004 09:09 PM

Why does everyone think those were 930's? At 7lbs they made 1050. :)

BTW Discarded is the wrong word. More like gave to a man who really cares. :D

Nauti Kitty 01-15-2004 09:14 PM

Might try Marc Berman at Bam Marine.

Sorry nauti- wrong choice of words:) I really admired that boat when it was up for sale- it was just a little too hard to convince the CPA wife that it was the boat of our future.
And yes, it went to a man who not only cares, but will give that boat a great new home!:D

Beak Boater,

Yes they are for the 39' and today I talked to Paul about a set and he is getting me a price together. As of right now I have my power and trailer knocked out...I never even thought abotu asking my racer buddies if they can take care of me. Slowly but surely getting all this put together:cool:

Thanks and if all goes smooth it will be complete by mid April.

Goodfella 01-16-2004 07:38 AM

Innovation Marine is Sarasota can sell them to you very very close to dealer cost. A pair of drives is approx 40 K.
If you need transom assemblies they are approx 22K for the pair. Innovation Marine's # is 1-941-355-7852 speak to Rick. You were reffered by Mike Wood of Stewart & Stevenson.

Innovation is a great place to call, or give us a call here. My cell is 513.706-3199. I would go with Herring Propellers and we are a dealer for them as well.

105mph_38_2003 01-16-2004 07:05 PM

Would it be wise to put used drives on a new boat?

Looks like I am going to be at $100g or so on the drives:eek:

Chris, thanks and I'll talk to you soon.

JPD Motorsports 01-16-2004 07:08 PM

105 if you don't want to spend that much on the 6's check out the weismanns www.weismann.net I'm looking at these for another option my self me need 3 of either or.

BigSilverCat 01-16-2004 07:34 PM

if you are spending that much on drives why would you not go with the arneson

105mph_38_2003 01-16-2004 07:36 PM

I honestly thought that I would be spending abotu $60k total for both drives:o

I am in sticker shock:eek: Now I know why all these boats are priced in the stratosphere:crazy:

DirtyMoney 01-16-2004 07:47 PM

Looks like $15,900 per side for drives
http://www.outdrives.com/merc/mcost01.html

DirtyMoney 01-16-2004 07:50 PM

Transom assemblies are roughly $11,000 here and drives are listed at full retail.
I would figure $25,000 perside plus transmissions
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Mercr...terndrives.asp

105mph_38_2003 01-16-2004 08:21 PM

I can work with $60k or lower...$100k would not be able to swing it:(

I clicked on the links that Hard On provided and saw the $16k per side price too but was told that there is more to it that that and transmissions...The BAMs are going to be about $3500-$4000 I was told.

105mph_38_2003 01-16-2004 08:33 PM

http://server1.offshoreonly.com/cgi-...uery=retrieval

Here are the used ones from Chief that are in the OSO classifieds...$11,000 each.

Too Old is correct. Surface drives don't provide much bow lift and some boats tend to run "wet" with them.
