LOTO shootout regulars.... A question for you...

Does your helmet have to be orange to run in the shootout????

'Foul

Buddy OO 01-19-2004 08:45 PM

shootout

that is affirmative.

Waterfoul 01-19-2004 08:51 PM

I thought so.... friend wanted to know.

MnFastBoat 01-19-2004 08:53 PM

I used my motorcycle helmet two years ago
they never said anything
They were more concerned about hte life vest being a 100moh Coast Gaurd rating

Cord 01-19-2004 08:55 PM

Mike was asking for me. I have a new Snell/Dot rated skid lid and was hoping to use it for the shoot out. Sure hate to paint it that ugly orange! Maybe I can talk some more cadie out of glass dave. :D

Smitty 01-19-2004 08:57 PM

Get some orange vinyl and stick it on for the weekend !!!

Ted G 01-19-2004 08:57 PM

I've used orange tape before. I think APBA wants at least 50%, so we just striped a black helmet with orange tape-passed tech for a divisional race, and a national come to think of it.

Cord 01-19-2004 09:11 PM

Now that's something I can do!

Cord 01-19-2004 09:14 PM

Hey, how do you guys measure for a vest? I measure around my chest and I get a whopping 39". But my shirts are 34's. What size would the vest be?

MnFastBoat 01-19-2004 09:42 PM

SpeedFreak 01-19-2004 11:04 PM

i used an all white one last year and a red one the year before. no problems at all and certainly no orange on them at all.

Hey Rick,

What was your top speed last year? I'm assuming you made the run in your 33'.

I borrowed one from Gordo. Almost turned into a fiasco. When we were at the Milwaukee race Gordo offered to let me borrow a vest and helmet. When I got down to the shootout, I met up with him told him that I needed to borrow them. He said to meet him in the staging line. I went and got my boat inspected, but by the time I got to the staging line, he had already run. Turns out he was light on gas and there was a pretty dock girl... I tried hailing him on the vhf with no success (that's why I made the run with the antenna up). Finally my turn was up and Gordo was still nowhere to be found. I went up to the starting judge and told him the situation and that I'd be dropping out. I had idled probably 500 feet when I finally saw Gordo comming twords me! I quick shouted to him that I needed to borrow a helmet and vest and he's like "What?". He had totally forgotten the offer from the race. I quickly threw the vest on and was happy too find it fitting. Then I tried to put the helmet on. Damn, Gordo sure does have a small head! :D I could get it on, but the thing wouldn't seat all the way down. At this very moment the boat that was in front of me made it's run. I cut into the staging line (the boat behind me knew what was going on and was Ok with it) and made sure the start judge knew what was happening. The total time between me meeting Gordo and making the run was only a couple of minutes. I actually had the boat at a high in gear idle while I was suiting up. Because of the timing and the small helmet, I made the first run with the chin guard pushing against my nose. Getting it off was just as interesting! Made for a pretty good Chris Farley impression! For my second run, I wet my hair down and really jammed it on. I was actually able to get it all the way on (it's nice having a full field of vision) but getting it off was even worse! Damn that thing hurt! That's why I was really hoping to use my own helmet this year! :p

JaayTeee 01-20-2004 10:44 AM

I've used snowmobile helmets
the last 3 years, 1 year,
Artic cat green, the last two
Yamaha red.

The inspectors never said anything
about it being not orange.

I don't remember the rules saying
anything about it being orange.

SummerObsession 01-20-2004 11:20 AM

JBK:
Planning on Memorial, 4th, Shootout, and probably a couple more.
Want to plan a trip to Grand also, perhaps for their Poker run or something. you in?
