Fish Tanks...Salt or Fresh?
 

I'm looking to buy a fish tank and I am wondering if people have fresh or salt and what the differences are. I've heard that salt water tanks are alot of work. I would rather have a salt water tank but want to make sure I have the time for it..

Dude if you want a fish tank set up correctly you need to talk to my buddy. He will give ya all the 411 on them. I prefer salt. They have a MUCH better feel to them but they do cost more.

Cool Jon, I definitely need some 411. I'm leaning toward salt for that same reason. I think when there done and working they do have a much better feel to them. Is it to late to call ya?

No doubt Big Yellow Cat has some very expensive fish in his tank.
Pure Energy has a large salt water as well, might want to PM one of them.

i have several fresh water tanks but would also like to do a salt tank. thing i heard was that salt tanks were only a bit more of a chore to setup but once they are up and running properly they are no more maintanance than fresh:cool:

thats exactly what ive heard.

ive got a freshwater. i would love to go salt, but i dont really want to flush my fish down the toilet :rolleyes:

what size tank are you working with. ive got a 55

I've got a 200 gal. reef tank and after it stabilizes, it's maybe an hour or so a week of maintinance. Just don't skimp on your equipment and it's no big deal. I heard all the horror stories about how hard it is but really, it's no problem after you get it right. Buy a protein skimmer by all means. I'm not sold on the chiller yet. It was an expensive item that needs to be located in the garage if possible. Alot of heat and noise. I have about 10K invested in mine to date. Dave

Fresh is much easier to take care of. But not that pretty. Salt is expensive but well worth it.
