Found a very useful tool on the net, I am shopping and wanted to verify the history and attachments if any on a boat.

With the documentation number you can order an abstract of title from the Coast Guard, that gives you all of the vessels ownership transfers and liens since it was manufactured. It coasts $25 and I received it 3 days after filling the form on-line.

Press the Abstract of Title Menu tab here and again in the second screen

Very usefull to verify liens recorded and who needs to be paid off, to get a clean title.

You can even run a boat name to find out whoo the current owner is and manufacturer, etc. Keep in mind though the documentation process takes about 5 months for recreational vessels, commercial only takes 2 weeks. If you are buying a boat the bank will require the abstract of title to secure their interest in the boat. It is kinda like buying a house!
