Southern Chopper / Discovery TV

Did anyone see Southern Chopper on Discovery Sunday night.

A good friend and customer was on there. Dorian with Carolina Custom made an appearence delivering the custom wheels for the project bike with the Milwaukee Iron logo in them.

He makes Billet wheels for all the bike builders, and we supply him the bearings and seals for the assemblies. They have an awesome shop up here in Union Grove, NC.

I was on the phone with him yesterday and he told me about the on air comment he made about Moon Shine!

He said it took almost six hours of filming for the 30 seconds he was on the air. The Discovery crew was all very young kids (early 20's) from California, and they had lots of questions about moon shine and Nascar. So he brought a quart of shine with him. They all tried some, stumbled around after drinking less than a half of a shot glass each, and then were blown away when he filled a bottle cap with some and lit it on fire and they saw the big blue flame!

His on air comment was "We have shine in stock, buy have to make the wheels!"

He had a good experience and got a little more exposure. Him and Randy at Milwaukee Iron have been good friends for a long time!

I thought it was cool!

I saw it and thought it was funny. The bike turned out really nice but i don't know about the handle bars. When they did the little talks don't you think the owner kinda looked and talked like vinnie from OCC? :D

I am not so sure about the show... it was ok, but at the same time sucked.... You could tell it was "acting" for the camera...

Outlawcowgirl 01-27-2004 12:14 PM

I saw it and it was okay-it was no American Chopper but it was funny. There was this laugh that they kept playing over and over that was so funny to hear. I think the long haired-bearded guy was the owner of this laugh.
Do you know if it is going to be a series now or was it just a one time show?

"The Blue Flame".....oh yes, I think i've seen that a time or two, since I am originally for WV.:D :D :D I always have to bring some back to FL with me. The neighbors love the "Peach Flavored" shine......Dave

I enjoyed it. I've heard a lot say "it's not OCC" and stuff like that, but it's not supposed to be. I really like American Choppers....but I also like to see what other people out there are doing, and I'm glad Discovery is bringing that to the table. The shows I really enjoyed were Motorcycle Mania I and II w/ Jesse James. I do have to say this about Southern Chopper......they did some awesome work, and in house too, thats what I like to see.

Dorian told me that we you see is what you get, that was their entire crew!

I could not believe it when Randy started shooting everyone with paint balls! "A Little Dangerous"!

We thought the bike turned out really sharp!

These guys use to specialize only in sheet metal. They did the tanks and fenders for the other guys building bikes.

Now they have gotten back into building the complete bikes.

The old guy with the beard has the tallent!

VinMan 01-27-2004 12:51 PM

Was that the Discovery Channel ,
or the "Deliverance" Channel??

It was pretty cool! I loved the wheels they made. But the head dude aint no Jesse James!!

ChrisK 01-27-2004 01:36 PM

if that is the whole crew WTF do they need that huge building for?

I thought the same thing!

Not only a big building, but a NEW building!

I guess the Discovery Channel pays well!

I'm pretty sure they run the rest of the business in there also. They still make fenders and tanks for OCC and the other chopper companies.

A lot of the fenders and tanks that OCC uses were fabricated at their shop.

I liked the show. I think they do more complicated fabricating then OCC does but OCC comes up with more creative Ideas.

Both good shows. I hope they keep them both on.

When are they going to do AMERICAN OFFSHORE ???

Danny Usnik 01-27-2004 03:06 PM

That would be cool. Probably a bit more expensive to make.

Dock Holiday 01-27-2004 03:12 PM

Rumer has it that they are talking to a family owned offshore performance boat builder in Florida now about this.

I got the information second handed, so I will not say anymore. The guy that told me is an OSO regular, maybe he will give some more details!

Lets hope it happens!

97BossHammer 01-27-2004 04:38 PM

Cool idea....I bet they'll have to come up with another name besides American Offshore......they'll be trying to get some money off that deal.

Hey they have a show for cars, bikes, etc etc.....BRING ON THE BOATS!!

dreamer 01-27-2004 06:34 PM
