left today. I'm getting the Bravo drive swap done.

I feel like a mother hen. I look out the window at the dock and my boat's gone. :(

Good lookin beatch ain't it? Amazing how clean your hull stays when you have a boat lift. :):):)

Waterfoul 01-29-2004 06:14 PM

Where's the rest of it?

Ouch, that had to hurt!!!

KH0302 01-29-2004 06:20 PM

Whaddya mean the rest of it? What, it's too short?

Waterfoul 01-29-2004 06:22 PM

Hey, you said it, I didn't....:D :D

Just razzin ya. There are several of those around here.... and those guys run them hard!

KH0302 01-29-2004 06:31 PM

I found out today that the AlphaSS drive is geared 1.32:1. The Bravo is 1.5. So I guess that'll slow me down some. Then again I never revved over 4800 with that SS. So maybe it'll rev higher with the Bravo, like 5000. Also wanna get rid of the 4 blade 21 pitch for a 3 blade.

Foul---Yeah, I had to DRIVE my boat to the ramp today. Cranked right up. Hauled ass doing it, too. :D :D :D

Waterfoul 01-29-2004 06:36 PM

You can get a Bravo with a 1.36:1 ratio.... might be worth looking into. BUT, a Bravo requires a little more power to spin than an alpha. And they have a larger drag coeficient simply because they are bigger. I did the alpha to bravo swap about 8 years ago or so. Lost about 1-2 mph on the top end. Then again, my boat weighs quite a bit more than yours....

Also, look at raising your x-dimension while you have it all apart. With the higher x, you will have less drag and require less trim to get WOT. I raised my x about 5 years ago and gained about 3-4 mph (I'm guessing at this because I upped my hp at the same time for a total of about 8 mph gain). With the higher x, you will find the 4 blade will handle better and grip better when you turn.

Just some thoughts.

My '87 P22.(1 peice windshield) I take it yours is newer? Great Boats. Little did I know that it was just the beginning of my sickness. :D :D

KH0302 01-29-2004 06:42 PM

Gary the boat dude said the 1.36s were like 1600 buck...?

Also I traded the guy a Dart intake for an alum. oval port intake(the Dart is rect.) and he's going to chunk the not working silent choice trash for stainless 4" bent tube. With an 830 4150 Holley I oughta recover the hp loss of the Bravo I hope.

KH0302 01-29-2004 06:47 PM

US1 mines 87 too.

Caincando1 01-29-2004 07:21 PM

I've always liked those 22 pachangas. Just something about them really apealls to me. The cockpits look comfy and quite roomy. How big are the cuddy's? Are they 22' including the swim platform?

Good luck on your upgrades.

Brian

US1 Fountain 01-29-2004 07:27 PM

The front is all bed with a couple of removable cushions for seating and an under neath stoage for the potty. The bed was very comfy with a good deal of room. Both more so than what my 27 Fountain had.

The swim platform is included in the OAL.

Thanks, Brian. This is my first 'performance oriented' boat.
Going to the ramp today I was into the wind and ran 4600 at 67 indicated-yes I know stec is going to say my speedo is 30mph off. And you know what else? I FROZE AZZ. :(
Hey Audiofn can you run your prop calc against a 4 blade4800rpm 1.32:1 drive, please? These #s are according to the guy who instaled the drivetrain. Supposedly 415HP motor.

Are you trading the SS in?

KH0302 01-29-2004 10:05 PM

yep

klmken 01-29-2004 10:08 PM

I've got an 86 all white. What engine do you have?

Caincando1 01-30-2004 08:29 AM

:D :D :D That's funny, that's exactly what I use mine for. Mine is just a little to small for the two of us to sleep in. I was thinking the 22 Pachanga cuddy would actually be big enough to sleep in. We'd only be over nighting a couple times a season. Other wise we'd use it the same way you do.

hold the value well too.
I guess, they must be a pretty high quality boat to be fetching that much coin.

I'm a big fan of the 22 Pachanga also. Ours is an '86 with a 350 Mag. It consistantly runs 62-63 on GPS with a 23 Tempest @4900 (just me light on fuel). I am constantly impressed with how well it runs. I've always had 16-18 Donzi classics for the everyday boat but this 22 with a cuddy runs 5 mph faster than my last 18 2+3 Donzi.

As far as the cabin goes, I've spent many nights in there. Plenty of room if you are solo.

i was at the sea ray factory in december. i went on a tour through the r&d department and saw them working on a new pachanga. they said they are working on a 33. i love sea ray and hope they come out with a performance cruiser.

KH0302 01-31-2004 09:34 AM

My understanding was that Ray sold the molds to envision. their 2600 pzaz looks like a changa to me. Check out the audio on their website.

don't know much about pachanga's but i have been a powerboat guy for years but my wife wanted to go to a cruiser for the kid. so we bought a new 340 sundancer in 2000. i have been suggesting to the local sea ray dealer to build an express cruiser like the formula 400 ss so i can have the best of both worlds. so when i say the drawings on the new pachanga i was excited. sea ray also owns baja and boston whaler so they feel like they have the powerboat market covered through baja.

Why not get the 40SS then? Going to wait for the SeaRay equivalent when 40SS is real nice!? My neighbor just traded a 37 SeaRay Dancer Gold Series w/454s for the 40SS stepped hull and twin 502s .. gets up around high 50s maybe 60, but in real comfort. Yeah Brunswick Corp owns them all Baja, SeaRay, Whaler, Bayliner and the Bowling Allies :)

Here is my 1990 22 Pachanga. Found the best prop to run on these boats is the hydromotive Q-IV. With stock 454 the 22 pitch is awesome. Pitting a HP500 in this winter and can't wait to see what kind of spped I get this spring.

(I have a set of 22 hydromotive props to sell)

fine jade 01-31-2004 01:33 PM

that is probably what i will do. i feel like the quality of the two are equal but i like the styling of sea ray over formula. but the real problem i have is the local sea ray dealer in austin is great and we all know how important that is. but if not i will probably give in to the formula, you just can't replace the thrill for speed even when it's only 50 to 60 mph.

How fast did you get it to go with the Q-IV?
Ken

22Pachanga 02-07-2004 09:23 AM

Was just at 60 on GPS, but had bottom paint on the boat that was removed this winter. I figure and the shop that removed it figured that we lost at least 3 mph.
Hole shot and handling was greatly improved with it
