Default How loud? Gill dry exhaust

How loud is the gill offshore dry exhust? I bought a 26' scarab, and have not herd it run yet. It's a built 383 small block chevy. Will I need some mufflers, if so what is the cheepest way to go? I have seen some clamp on styles not sure what they cost?

They Will be loud, prob more than you'd like. A dry exhaust will always be louder than a wet exhaust, because the water sort of muffles the sharp bite of the noise. If you are lookin for a good inexpensive muffler, look into the Drew Marine shotgun exhaust silencers. They will stay closed at idle to keep the noise down around the docks but when you give it throttle, they will automatically open from the backpressure of the exhaust. You prob have a 4" tailpipe, but measure the diameter to be sure. They're about $450 a pr. and the ph # is 509-535-3393. Good luck.

I used to have Gill Dry on My 24 Pantera with a 502. It sounded awesome. I would not put mufflers on unless noise is an issue where you boat or you like to hear yourself think.

Put it this way for comparison... my little warmed mouse motor with stock merc center risers and imco M-72 pipes... wet exhaust... unmuffled (corsa straight cuts w/ internal flappers)... is 104 dBA (slow response) at 800 rpm, 3 feet from the transom between the pipes on an 85 degree day in southern michigan with 80% RH... only SLIGHTLY illegal...

you'll probably be pushing the 110 dBA barrier... it's a logrithmic scale... from 100 to 110 is a BIGGER jump compared to say 90 - 100... 90 dBA is the legal limit in michigan... F-em if they can't take a joke

Too Old had dry pipes on a single big block Pantera, I believe - he said they were really too loud. Personally, I like to know I've got a big block or two back there, but I don't want to spend the day yelling at the person next to me....

I know your boat, The previous owner used to launch it by my house and I don't think it is too loud, just enough to let you know it's not stock, and it sounded real good.
