Spin a yarn...disasters and close calls...
I want to hear some stories...boaters are usually good for this...chase away the boredom of winter with a tale of frustration from warmer days. I'm sure there's got to be some good ones out there!
I've only been at this for two seasons, but this year I returned to my harbor to find the power out and my hoist useless. I sat on the dock and had a couple beers with my buddy when my bilge suddenly started pumping. I thought that strange, as it had never happened before...looked under the hatch and found quite a bit of the wet stuff! I fired both engines and checked for a split hose or a leak and found nothing. Jumped in the lake and checked the drives and the plug...nothing. Finally, I located the leak right at my depth sounder (an older thru-hull model), sent my buddy to the ship store for some silicon, and patched it up. Needless to say, my heartrate was slightly elevated, as was the temper due to the fact that I was sitting on my hoist as this occured but couldn't use it to save my boat! I hope that's the closest I come.
