Not saying the insurance companies know anything , just that they obviously feel cats and there owners are more likely to make a claim.. :chick:

What about that video of the race cat (correct me if I am wrong on the builder) with the V-12 Lambo motors. 40' Skater? Don't remember the race team. Was following another boat and blew over. Actually landed right side up!

Don't get me wrong here. Not trying to pile on. Heck, I own a cat.

I dont believe the insurance companies are "AS" concerned with the style of the hull as much as they are the speed. Cats are considerably faster than V's therefore the premium is as well.
100+ on the water is high risk and there arent many cats out there that cant run 100.
Im speaking in general terms, I know there are exceptions.

I was in a well built, well respected 30 foot V at 85mph last weekend. It felt very fast and light, and safe. I wouldnt have felt safe trying to push it another 20mph which is where my 30 foot cat runs.

Is there anyone else in this situation?? Is there a 2nd person who would have their own experience that 95 mph in a 38 Top Gun has a more stable ride than 140 mph in a 37 1/2 Talon Cat?? Just checking.

Ok, I read this whole thread--- Now here's my $.02. I'm in the 98%. I have owned two 80mph plus boats--- one V and one cat. The first was a 27' fever fountain 750hp dick simon blower motor supposed to run 89 mph, I put the boat in lake mead 2' chop I plained the boat finally after what seemed like forever, throttled to 65 mph, my buddy holding the gps at that point the boat seemed very stable, but you could feel the transom getting loose. I eased the throttle to 75mph k planes all the way up and with a small amount of trim she started to chine walk. i tried to throttle past it but it got worse and at 79mph it was all that i want ed. the worst chine walk I have ever experienced felt like a bobble head doll. for those of you that have never experienced this imagine a astro van pulling a big boat that starts to whip!
I went home and got on the web and was surprised that they all did this! i read that you have to drive it off the nose and the trim tabs and you could drive thru the chine walk, So back to the lake. with all this new knowledge i would throttle this boat to 89 mph i did as they said and it did throttle past 80 to 82 and started searching---- for a place to crash!!!!

now for the cat
I bought a 29' force offshore 572 ci 725 hp. put it in lake mead set the throttle at 3500 rpms and it jumped right on plane i throttled to 60 mphI the waterchop was unnoticeable, in fact i then decided to finish my iced tea that was in the cup holder, that done i went to 75mph with moderate trim the the boat stayed level and in full control. I was able to look around , not at just the nose and was able to monitor the gages. I pressed on to the 80 mark, pretty much out of throttle and looking to the drive angle for more speed i was able to get to 81mph with it trimmed excessive all it did was slow down, back to 75mph. never once did i feel like I was not in control or reckless.
