We didn't go over because of chine walking. We went around a turn too hard and the boat spun out and flipped.

I prefer to think of it as stupidity on the driver's part and I might have been holding the sticks down a bit too much for the conditions in the harbor turn.

Chalk it up to inexperience and the desire to win not poor hull design.

We just lost Chris Parker last week because of that.

In calm water a cat at 140 feels like a car at 60mph. A vee at those speeds feels on the edge of control. Unless its an Outerlimits!

No, not saying that. But the original question had to do with 120 mph. Although not impossible at that speed, very unlikely unless the boat is trimmed extremely loose and heading into a strong wind.

I didn't want to bring that up here but wondered if anyone looked at the threads pinned to the top of the General Boating section.

Kilokat, It wasnt too long ago and the cats were struggling to run those numbers. Both Cats and V's are going a lot faster than ever. When you mention 150mph in a boat any HP boater thinks of a big cat. Now to say it was done in a V raises a lot of eyebrows. V's will never close in on cats with identical power its a simple as that. Your 180mph was just as impressive.

That is a very vague description. What kind of car are you talking about? A Lexus LS 430, or a Geo with an alignment problem?

Just a quick point:
The cat's that have gone over have all likely been because of driver error... Whether the boat was improperly trimmed or going to fast for the water conditions. If a cat is properly trimmed it won't go over. Now that doesn't mean this is the best angle of attack for max speed... max speed is obtained close to the hairy edge.

Also keep in mind that all things being equal, a vee may not be capable of reaching 120 (or more) in bad waters which the cat may be able to do... and if this is the case, should the cat be going that fast???

It all boils down to driver control and ability... accidents happen when someone is in over their head.;)

With the sincerest respect for those affected by any boating accident, I would like to address a couple of questions posted here. Most accidents involving cats do not involve a blowover. Rather, they can land wrong (sponson first), hook, then rollover.
