ot: Hit a deer
Need a grill and headlamps for a 97 silverado.
Where is a good place to order these from? Also thought about changing to a euro headlight. Anyone using them, and what type to buy? |
Man glad you are ok. I hit a dear a few years back. Lucky for me it his a suburban first. The truck was destroyeed and my car only had slight damage. I was heading down for training and I opted NOT to go down the Saw Mill Parkway due to all the dear I have been seeing there lately.

Are there better lights for the money since I'm replacing it all anyway?

Put a Caddy front end on it.

Anyone using them, and what type to buy? I believe you use 9006 for low and 9005 for high. You can get HID conversions for about $400 and they are awesome for seeing clearly at night. DON'T fall for those blue headlights as they look cool but actually redice your vision. The HID will look blueish if you get out of the truck and stare at them but they are very different from those stupid blue bulbs. I use the HID conversions in my Supra and Dodge with amazingly better vision. Now it is just frustrating to get into a car and drive at night with regular halogens. Roby |

Its really not that bad. Just got the lights and grill.
What brand of bulbs, or does it matter? |
try here: http://www.lmctruck.com/
or you can get the part numbers from the local GM dealer and order all the factory direct parts from www.gmpartsdirect.com at below wholesale costs. As for the headlight bulbs.......i'm on a truck board an they say not to go with the HID conversions on the Chevy/GMC trucks with the composite headlights. They say that the "REAL" HID kits may fit the housings but the bulbs were not designed for the optics of the housing and it wont get you the full effect that HID were built for. The newer silverados have complete replacement headlamp assemblys built just for HID bulbs. My buddy Karl installed a set on his 2500HD and it does make a HUGE difference. For our trucks i would just go get the Sylvania Sylverstar superwhite bulbs. They are probably the closes to pure white and dont have that stupid blue tint you see all the ricers with. The other flaw on our trucks is that the power to the light goes through the headlamp switch and thus draws alot of current. Ever notice the switch gets hot on long trips at night??? They have harness's that add relays so you get juice to the headlights straight from the batt.....this will also brighten the stock headlights you have now. :D |
Oh and i forgot to mention...PepBoys has a cupon for a rebate on these bulbs right now. They normally sell them individually at $20ea. they have a twin pack on sale for $34.99 plus a $6 mail in rebate :D
