Anyone buy a boat from Canada?

I'm getting a boat from Canada and was wondering if anyone has done this beofre and if there were any issues with importing it. The seller will actually bring it across the border for me but are there any registration issues?

No there are absolutely no problem! But like anything you buy regardless were you buy it ,make sure there are no liens on it !!!

I will call a dealer friend of mine from Canada for you and find out what to do for the Customs !

But if the seller is bringing it through the border for you i am assuming the sale will originate in the US, so there should not be any issues with that !

If the boat was originally made in the US you can bring it back in without any duty. If it was not made in the US I would "expect" you have to pay some form of import taxes.

I tried to buy a Cig in Canada, but the dealer sold it to someone else (even while I had a deposit on it) while we were working to clear an old lien against the boat from 10+ years earlier in Florida. Moral, be sure you have someone run a check against it in the US too, not just the Canadian title search.

Thanks for the info! :)

The seller will bring it across the border for me and the boat was made in the US so hopefully that will take care of any customs duty.

How do you check for liens? Is there a service that does that? Website? Dealer?

I bought one in canada and lucked out because the owner had been transfeered to Canada from the U.S., paid the improt fee in Canada, but hadn't registered the boat in Canada. When I brought it back into the states the customs guys said, "have a nice day" and sent me on through.

Should not have a problem - I've sold my last 2 boats back into the US - did the same thing delivered across the border & they were on there way. You don't want to involve the customs if you don't have to.

I bought mine from Canada, they delivered it to me, no problems at all. Had to pay the sales tax which of course was high but other then that, great deal. You getting the boat from an individual or dealer?
