Lot of Talk about the "Speed Record"

So I figured I would post the rules from SBI and APBA. In my opinion these are the only US bodies that can do a credible World Record trial.

SBI First: They are Adobe so you will have to go there and read yourself but I think I have made it as easy as possible for ya :D As I read this OL was not eligable to even run in a SBI event as the boat has not placed in any races this year..... or did I miss something?

http://www.superboat.com/pits/pdf/SBIPrulebook.pdf

The rules start on Page 35

APBA:

Hope this helps clear up some peoples point of view. I think that OL could certainly give Raggie a run for his money and even beat them however the back door way that they did it with WHO sanctioning the event....... Also the fact is that Reggie probably went even faster then OL to average his speed of 160 in one direction. The fact of the matter is Fountain could be fireing up a boat at this very second to run under these rules and set the bar even higher. Then who else will start to play in the game. Rules are Rules and you need to FALLOW THEM.

Audio,

it is simple. If Reggie was willing to go head to head, we would not be having this conversation, but he wasn't. OL offered to split the cost of the event, and even foot the bill for the event. The only way to settle this would be to line them up and run like gentlemen, but you and I know that is not going to happen.

Audiofn 02-11-2004 09:41 PM

However has their boat ever placed in a race? Because according to the rules IT HAS TO to be elligable. Split the costs or not they (OL) was not eligable to run. Are we sapposed to bend or break the rules for OL??

sbi bends them for reggie, that's why he's there and not apba!!!!!!!!
like marcus said let oso or someone sponsor a event and run head to head!!!!

Audiofn 02-11-2004 09:53 PM

As long as all the same rules are fallowed for BOTH of them then I am cool with that. That is my problem with the way they are playing now. They are playing under different rules. I find that SBI is a MUCH more redible sanctioning body.

One other thing to consider. They were using GPS. Did they go in both directions? Because there can be ON HELL of a current that runs in there depending on the area. Did they run one run after the other or did they run one run out on the outgoing tide and another run in on the incoming tide? I do not know the answers to this as there has not been any info provided about it.

Wooooooooooooooow...........coming from a former SBI racer?

Bend? you must be joking.

SBI & Rulebook are contradicting terms.

fountain1fan 02-12-2004 05:39 PM

DoTheMath 02-12-2004 06:14 PM

I was at the show today, saw Mike (and XXX up close and personal!) HOLY $HIt, what a ride. Saw Reggie in his booth with posters all over the place with his old record on them:D . And... I talked to Billy Frenz about "the run...", all-in-all a very interesting day! Got a ton of pics too, will post later.

fountain1fan 02-12-2004 07:15 PM

dave p ,how can you be so down on every thing ? you neaver have any thing nice to say about any thing. being a mag owner or reporter it looks like you would have a opean mind about things .

candyman35 02-12-2004 08:42 PM

Hey Jon,
Stirring the pot again!:p :D Rules are rules. If they were broken then someone should be disqualified. That being said I'm happy to see OL and Fountain making the record attempts. It helps spice up the board in the winter. Next thing you know Apache will be making a KILO attempt. :)

I was lucky;and was a driver of a kilo record. I know this record will be broken. I agree with equal rules for all. I followed both body's at the time, and am proud. I wish I could just use my GPS. then I would have more than beaten the mark I have already set. F1-1 87.6
