Check out this pic. Gary Reagan who works on my boat says SeaRay built these hooks into the chines on purpose to keep the nose down. He thinks grinding them down and re-gelcoating could cop me a couple mph. What do you think?

It seems like a lot of work for 2 MPH considering that the average human walks at 3.3 MPH.

That is not a "hook"
Hook is a concave bottom (hull) towards the transom. The running surface is concaved near the transom (front to back) to push the nose down.

Ok...then what would you call the center chine which is convexed? See how the left and right ones are flat across, and the center bulges downward? Gary says that's built into the mold(or was)...

You are not showing the hook in that pic but the Pachanga did come with a hook. If you remove it you have to think about all the additional cost that will be associated after the bottom work is done. You will have to have tabs and a new prop. And find somebody else to do the work.

Doesn't matter what "shape" the chines and stuff are from the back as far as hook or rocker, what matters is the amount of change front to back that they go thru in the last 3 feet of hull.

Granted, your hull has some odd looking stuff on it, but without a side shot there is no way to see how it transitions to the rear.

As far as what it is and why they did it? Who knows. There's a lot of odd hulls out now and some features I am convinced are there just to nake them look "hi tech".

A lot of times a change in that area is for spray control or holding tight in a turn or something.

I see, your talking about the area between the strakes. Like mcollinstn said, this is not a "hook" and probably has no effect. Maybe if you got that trailer bunk in the right place it would flatten that spot out for ya'.
