Greetings from Miami!!!!

Hello to all that could not make the trip. This years show is has been fantastic, met quite a few OSO folks and we have attended just about every party on SoBe, the weather has been great, although a bit windy:eek: :D

Yesterday, NEVRENUFF,Craig223, his lovely wife Nancy and I spent the day in GLH's new 42 TIGER. We hooked up with OSO Steve and Samantha, Nautikitty and his crew and we steamed south to Key Largo, spent a couple of hours at Gilberts and then hung it out back to Miami:D ....Man, that GLH HAS ONE BEAUTIFUL BOAT! It sure was a treat to be able to go for a full throttle long distance run in such a cool rig. I was just blown away at how well GL's Tiger works, those MERCURY 600SC's run SWEEEEEETTT! What an incredible package and they sound incredible. GLH, I can't thank you enough!

The Cigarette party was a hoot! Not what this Mainer is used to for sure. We all had a blast met up with more OSO'ers than I could count. Hey Nort!!!!!

Today we are going to scour the show and check out the new product.

Catch you later,

Kurt

Ready for a little plane ride Cap? $1000.00 round trip...that's nothin' for a gov't employee of your stature!!!:p

cuda 02-15-2004 08:33 PM

We were there as well. What happened to everyone that "luvs the rough?". Unless my eyes were deceiving me, I saw everyone run through Government Cut!:D

I know it had to have BIG on the outside with that wind blowing like that. I heard someone ask Cig1 if he caught any air out there. He wasn't sure if they caught any water.:) I think BG1 came down on the outside didn't he?

I got some pics from Monty's that I'll post.

gdfatha 02-15-2004 08:38 PM

Biggus--How many new shirts did you buy this time??

Cuda,

I have a three x five inch welt on the right side of my rib cage as a testament to how snotty it was, even in "Government Cut." 85mph (speedo, not GPS for those of you keeping track) is rather hairy in the rear seats of a Gladiator. Yes, yes, woe is me... Great to meet you and Debbie in person.

cuda 02-15-2004 08:56 PM

Hey Kevin, what did the cops pull you guys for right when you were leaving?

Phknlwyr 02-15-2004 09:01 PM

The short story is that the marina was not happy that someone pulled up to the dock, let someone jump in, and then took off without paying a "landing fee." The good news is that my trip is now tax deductable as I had to put on my lawyer hat to appease the marina folks and officer friendly out in his Whaler.

Note to all boaters: A two finger salute to a cranky dockmaster is not a good idea during Boat Show weekend. :D

cuda 02-15-2004 09:25 PM

I heard one of the dock guys say that they had called the law, but had called them back to say everything was ok.

ChrisK 02-15-2004 09:32 PM

<wipes head> OK We just got bacl to the house... Kurt thanks SOOOOOOOO much for letting 2 homeless guys crash on your floor friday night, I must say though that beds are MUCH more comfortable. :D

Chris, did you go to Ft Myers today? We took the scenic route home over Tamiami Trail, then up 29 through Immokollee and over to Ft Myers.

We saw countless gators on the trip. Last year Debbie counted 181 gators coming back on the Alley. We couldn't keep up with the count today!:)

Here's one of them.

ChrisK 02-15-2004 10:08 PM

Yeah we have the trailer here... We took 75 to Ft myers, then took 80 to 29 then to 27 up to I4... I think that qualifies as the scenic route!

GLH 02-15-2004 11:31 PM

Actually made it to the show today and flew back tonight. Thank God...

Wasabe 02-15-2004 11:46 PM

Hey GLH! It was kewl to have met you!

Wardey 02-16-2004 07:01 AM

Cuda - I couldn't count the gators going across "The Alley" yesterday...... I maintained a average of 90 to 120 mph speed and only saw (1) trooper. It's hard to take your eye's off the road when you are "traveling" !!!!:D :D :D Dave

Phil is the best and I guess when you buy a boat from Phil it's like borrowing it from him.
Saturday morning I went out to go up to Fort Lauderdale and to give a ride to the friend I stay at in Plam Beach.
We get out at Haulover and head north to Ft Lauderdale (Maybe 12-15 Miles) wind is from the South East and in following seas we're having a good ride, fly a couple times and all is well. I drop my friend of at the launch on 15th street in Lauderdale and wait for Parnell to show up with his Saber. He shows up and we head out of Lauderdale for Miami, where you saw us Joe. At that point I am by myself in the boat, now we are heading into the wind and I would say 5-7 foot waves running about 50 mph getting bounced around somewhat but still manageable. At one point I launch and the seas were a tad confused when I land it almost stuffs the boat maybe the last two feet of the nose staid above the water. That slows the boat down drastically and boat engines stop  , I put it in neutral and try to crank them again. It cranks but but's not starting, I check all breakers switches, kill switch and everything is all right and plugged. By this time Parnell is along side me and Dave swims over to help me look around he checks all the stuff I did and we can't figure why they are not starting. (Thanks again for your help Dave by the way)
Now I call Phil on the cell tell him I'm two miles offshore bobbing like a cork and the engines won't start but they are cranking. Now Phil explains to me in no uncertain terms that I should not be out there with his boat in this weather  I tell Phil that I will gladly sit in his office for him to chew me a new one when I get back but that I was calling for something a little more constructive!!! while distressed in the Atlantic! He goes thru all the electrical to check has we had done and then says we will figure a way to get a tow in. He will call me back.
5 Minutes later he calls says "I can here your buzzers when the ignition is turned on on the cell so electrical is ok so jam the throttle full boar and crank the engine you might have flooded it, keep your hand on the throttle if it starts turn it back down." I crank with the throttle wide open and VROOOOM the thing starts repeat on the other and the other engine starts. He tells me that when I landed the sudden deceleration must of stuck the floats somehow in the carburetors and flooded the motors.(something like that)
Once it's running and all set Phil kindly says "Now get your azz back inside and be careful" Than another pearl off wisdom from the man... he says "Now remember G.L. you dodged one there but like I told you, it's not an anvil don't beat on it like it is".
Had a beautiful rest of the day and that experience kept me honest for the rest of the day after that... you saw me about an hour after that "enjoyable" event at Monty's.
They are changing the oil in it today and I will chalk this up to experience and thanks for Phil and Mother nature to slap me back to reality!!!.

RollWithIt 02-16-2004 12:02 PM

Hey Kurt, Thank you again for letting us crash at your place Friday night. It beat sleeping on the street.:p Let me know if there is ever anything I can do to repay the generosity.
