Removing bottom paint

Does anyone have a guess at the cost to have the bottom paint removed from a 34' V and the hull bottom re-polished? (and no, I don't want to do it myself, I just don't have the time to take on such a task, and would rather spend my available time doing something much more pleasant)

Thanks - Greg

Yea here in NJ you can go to any train station and get people for $5 an hr and a Big Mac for lunch. They work really hard too just don't let then use power tools that cut.

I little better guess than that, please :D

try west marine stores. they have a product to remove bottom paint. it's called peel away bottom paint stripper. looking at the catalog it says to apply and let it work for 2-24 hrs.no fumes , 1 gallon costs 60 $ and treats 50 square ft. on page 338 of the 04 catolog.

I took my 242 Formula to a bead blasting shop. They did it for right around $300, however, I recomend that you DON'T do that. It damn near ruined my hull, in some spots it looked like it was shot with number 8 bird shot. I did one myself with a pressure washer and a sandblasting attchement. It came out much smoother than the bead blasting.

Bead blast.
You can see some holes where it shot too big a chunck out or something.

Here's part that I sandblasted myself. I imagine you could just hire a pressure washing guy to do it for you. It took 550 pounds of fine sand to do a 20 foot boat. It came out much nicer than the bead blast.

I did mine myself and it took about 30 hours of work.

I don't think Debbie was even home when I did the sandblasting route. It only took me a couple hours or less.

Note all the sand on the ground.:)

I don't think I spent $100 between renting the powerwasher, the sand attachment and the sand itself. Believe me, it's worth it. You will have it done in two hours.

I've started using the peel away with somewhat success. If there is a quicker way out there someone chime in please. I'm all in favor of not having to do this myself;)
