Nor-tech vs MTI

Hi!

As you might know, the founders of Nor-tech is native Norwegians. They have a local dealer back home not so far from I live, and I have seen their awesome V38, V43 and 36 cat. Just lovely boats!!

Last year we tested the 36 cat with a mild 2 x Yanmar 415 HP's engines and surface drives. It only ran 82 mph....

A few weeks ago I met Randy Scism at Ugland Offshore Racing, and he showed me some pictures of his 39 cat. This version had twin Yanmar 415 HP with Arneson surfacing drives. It runs 103 mph....

So the big question is; what is the reason for 36 feet Nor-tech 82 mph speed and MPI 39 feet 103 mph speed difference??

Nor-tech vs MTI

Hi!

I was suprised over the result. The factory driver seem to do the work, but the speed lacked. But something has to be wrong.

MTI's are quick, but not that much compared to Nor-tech. I would have to think that something with the setup was not correct.

Maybe a 2 speed tranny, thats what I would do.

I bet the Nor Tech weighed MUCH more.

The 39 MTI is a lighter boat, uses alot of carbon fiber, and has a race proven track record, truely an awesome machine. The Nortech 36 is really a 38.6 weighs more and is set up for the poker run/recreational crowd, has taller sides, a fair cabin/head for a cat. The one that was viewed was not 100% dialed in, I believe it to be one of the first ones with diesels, and not sure if the surface drives were Arneson. The weight is not that much of a factor to be 20 mph off, Terry could enlighten you more accurately. Jeff

Toffen,
The day the Nor-Tech left the US it ran 93 MPH and still wasn't dialed in. Due to shipping requirements it had to leave immediately. I can't tell you what happened since then.
Did you ride in the MTI and see 103? I know for a fact that their boat came no where near that speed. Just ask the drive supplier. As of the boat show it was not dialed in either.
They build great boats and to each his own, just make sure you have actual facts before deciding on what to buy.
Thanks,
Terry
