Cockpit Cover for a Cig. Bullet?

Anybody have one? Or recommend a shop to purchase one from. What kind of material would you all recommend?
Also, what would be a fair price?

Thanks in advance,
Craig:)

I know of a really good place up here in Pittsburgh that makes custom covers for your boat. They have a selection of about a half dozen types of materials. The only thing is that you need to take the boat there. So, I would be more than happy to take care of your boat for you and bring it up here,, for a month or two.:D :D

Not that it will help you there, but I had one custom made here for the 302 for $385, sunbrella.

Yours should be similar in size.

I had one made for the '89 @ $40. per foot with sunbrella. Nice job done but would stay away from a mail order deal.

Congrats on your Bullet, it looks great!!!! I've started a thread about needing a cockpit cover for mine. Can you help me out with a number of the guy who is making yours. You can post his number in my thread or give me a call.

Craig,

eMotion/Doug here on OSO and the udder board has a canvas/interior guy in Rockville/Silver Spring he speaks very highly of. PM him, or I have a number for him if you like.

John (Super Hawaii 40) just made one himself on a sewing machine at home using material gotten from Sunbrella i believe. He psoke with a local canvas maker to get the gouge on measurements and snaps. He just recently tried it out and it turned out well...

I make covers in Michigan and I would recommend using Sunbrella fabric. Because it has little canvas fade and is mildew resistant. Not to mention it is fully breathable. Anything else just email or call my shop.

I just called a local guy and he gave me a rough estimate of $1100    I emailed him some pics and he's going to call me back tommorrow with a price. Seems high to me!!

NickOTeen 03-31-2004 04:03 PM

Craig,
That seems really high. I'm going to get a full cover done for the 28, and I'm getting estimates of $700 for Aqualon and $800 for sunbrella. Anybody recommend one over the other??

eyezlee 03-31-2004 08:39 PM

NickO -
Where are you getting those prices from?

bigwillys454 03-31-2004 09:56 PM

canvas price

That price seems high to me too. I would go with sunbrella over aqualon. SUnbrella has been around for a long time and has a 5 year warranty. Aqualon may have a warranty, I can't remember. I like the fact that sunbrella breathes so your boat doesn't get mildewed. I just did a cover for a 38' Donzi ZX and charged 800.00 for a cockpit. You should shop around. Hope this helps. BIll

The quote that I posted came from ABC covers in Grove. I received a similar quote from Hays's Canvas in Dewey, OK. Granted I haven't seen eithers work yet, but they both had Aqualon and Sunbrella available. The Sunbrella is about $3 / foot higher then the Aqualon. I haven't decided which one to go with, but it sounds like the aqualon is more durable.

Craig,

Craftsman Upholstery is around the corner from my work in Fairfax. Give Eric a call- 703-278-8550. He has done some work on my hot rod with my satisfaction, but nothing on my boat (yet). I see boats in his shop all the time getting interiors redone and covers made. They also recover all the seats in our company trucks.

Craig, Get a hold of Waterfoul...He has one of them there sweet looking covers, Hell it even matches the boat!!!

R Addiction 04-01-2004 06:39 AM

Sorry about that 'Foul, You shouldn't have sent me that picture. You knew it would come back on ya!!!;)

canvasboy 05-08-2004 01:30 AM

Nick O, I'd go with the Aqualon just for the type of fabrics each are. Sunbrella is a woven acrylic that will over time lose its waterproofness, where Aqualon is a poly vinyl coated that will not lose it. Ventilation is required with the Aqualon but overall I recommend it over sunbrella. Both carry same limited warranties. More questions call me 573-346-7155 at LOTO area around Camdenton, Mo.
