Box Anchor 'procedure'... finally answering...

JBK, and a few others asked about this some time ago.
I have the large Box Anchor, and will never own another anchor. This one is fantastic. I bought a cheap duffle bag from Target, and one of those thick fender protectors that mechanics use. I keep the anchor wrapped in the protector, and lay the whole thing into the bag, for storage. The anchor requires no chain, which is good. The bag works really well for storage, and in the event you want to carry it up to the bow, (I hardly ever do unless already rafted), the bag and shoulder strap, (along with the walk rail on a Sonic), makes it very easy to get it up to the bow without damaging anything or anyone. The reel is an extention cord reel from Home Depot. I always deploy and retrieve the anchor from the cockpit, and lay it out on the protective pad before to prep for storage and vice versa. It works very well. In the event you don't get all the crap off the anchor, it all ends up in the bag, and not all over your boat. |

I also built a bit of a protective bin under my rear seat out of the garage decking material you get from Home Depot. It keeps the anchor bag right where I put it, and away from my switches, speakers, and extra fluids.

I love mine but agree it is a bit of pain. You dont want it to be your only anchor as deploying it in a hurry is not going to happen. Mine came in a nice storage bag. I use my regular anchor unless its a difficult botton. I also use it off the transom and its great for walking up on the beach and dropping it to keep your boat anchored near shore with a second anchor off the back. Ive even filled mine with rocks on a beach.

Kevin, I may have to save that line as a signature quote, but then again I do not want a reputation as such. :D :D

Originally posted by Phknlwyr With all of the dating you do Brian, I have serious doubts about you having "extra fluids." :D LMAO!!!!:D :D I've got a box anchor and it's alot less hassle (and easier to stow) than anything else. I'll never own anything else! |
